thinking GT may end up #1 on the list of schools. ACT - 32/SAT - 2120, GPA - 4.0, Lots of ECs

ACT 33 (superscore 35); SAT 2210; 28 AP hours; usual extracurriculars, not a penny from GT as OOS

On the other hand, I’ve seen students with far inferior stats get plenty of money. For scholarships, EC’s seem to be really important (especially leadership based EC’s).

In short, it is extremely difficult. The President’s Scholarship is the primary scholarship for out of state students. It is extremely competitive, even for someone of your caliber. However, it is in the process of being completely restructured and is under the leadership of a completely new director who formerly managed the scholarship and fellowship program at NC State. There are a number of other scholarships that are managed separately from financial aid and are available for more specific cases (minority, specific majors, exceptional community service, etc.) A list of these is available here:

What about for females going into engineering coming from out of state? Does that help at all? GPA-5.5, 500 service hours, not many APs but lots of classes above AP level with 15 math credits and 13 science, research at Duke, and lots of ECs and leadership, not a great SAT score though… 2010

@anothercat fan: Looks like you are the kind of person they are looking for! :-)
