Meaning of Morehead-Cain and Robertson Scholarship E-mail?

Hello! I received an e-mail from UNC today saying I've been nominated to apply for the Morehead-Cain and Robertson Scholarship program. I've never heard of them before, and they seem really interesting! Did anyone receive this e-mail as well? Does it mean anything about my chances to be accepted? I'm OOS by the way.

this is GREAT news.
Both the Morehead-Cain and Robertson Scholarship program offer mostly full rides for OOS students. your stats must be pretty amazing because it is an extremely selective program. I must say your chances of being accepted have increased dramatically.

Just look up both scholarships. There are also tons of threads here about them for more info.

Wow! I’m super honored! Thanks for the info!!!

I think this information is all right - but someone can feel to correct me:

Morehead Cain - oldest merit based scholarship in the country. It’s a full ride, with four paid summer experiences. About 60 kids receive it, 2/3 are usually from NC. Maybe 10 or so are international, the rest are OOS. Most candidates come through a nomination process, but a handful of students are pulled from the general applicant pool and referred to MC for application. This is a BIG deal, and a big honor. If you are invited for the scholarship interview weekend, you have a 50/50 chance of getting it. The MC is run adjacent to the university, but is technically not part of it or administered by the school. This website has all the information: [The Morehead-Cain Scholars Program UNC Chapel Hill](http://www.moreheadcain.org/)

MC has four criteria: academic, leadership, service and physical vigor.

Robertson - is a school scholarship. Also full ride, with I believe limited summer experiences. Robertson is based on grades and leadership as I understand it. This is run by the school. There is some Duke component here I believe, as in Robertsons can take classes at Duke - or maybe they are required to spend a semester there … I’m sure it’s on their web page. Duke also has Robertson scholars.

Recent rule changes made it so that students applying to UNC cannot apply to both the Robertson and Morehead at UNC, so it’s a big deal you’ve been asked to apply for both.

Make the deadlines, be yourself and good luck! A great opportunity has presented itself for you - make the most of it!

I believe I had previously read how many at large applicants (i.e. forwarded from UNC admissions, not from a nominating school) were invited to apply, but now I do not recall the numberr nor whether the poster said how they knew this. I can’t seem to find this post now.

Anyone have this information?

Also, drewski94, congratulations to you.

I don’t know if I have read a number - but I would not think the number is large.

The number is definitely not large - they’re extremely selective because they already have so many great applicants for the scholarships without inviting anybody from admissions. You are almost definitely guaranteed admission at this point.

Admission maybe, but scholarships, not necessarily. MC is very clear to say they do not have input on admission, or nor does being a scholar guarantee you a scholarship. AND - if you have good enough stats to be referred to MC … than yes, you are probably in for admission.
