How hard is it to get a parking permit as a sophomore?

I hear they will accept if you have a good reason and get a note from an employer/doctor/etc; if I get some ******** (not fake/counterfit, but... exaggerated), are they likely to accept it?

Edit: This is partly because not being allowed to have a car as a sohphomore is ridiculous, but primarily because I might get an apartment near campus and not dorm and I'd need a way to get there.

Of course, being able to get edible food from King Cullen or even Wal Mart that I know are nearby is good too...

If you’re living off campus, you can get a parking permit. It’s only if you’re living on campus that it’s restricted to students with junior standing.

Chris

Do you think it would be possible at all for a weekend commuter to get a parking pass?

Not without a proper job, medical or other reason.

How far is off-campus parking? Is the parking lot really that crowded that there isn’t any space for freshmen/sophomores? How many credits do you need to be considered a junior?

Dude, do you even know what the parking situation at SB is like? The parking situation really IS that bad. They built the south P lot that is like a mile off campus with an express bus that daily commuter students have to use because every lot on campus is near packed. Even South P damn near fills up and most of the time the only spots that are open are all the way to the back far away from the express bus stop.

If you really just want to be able to get off campus to go buy groceries or go to Wal-Mart just make really good friends with a commuter student and they would probably hook you up.

Also if you get an apartment off-campus it doesn’t matter if you are a freshman sophomore junior or senior you can get a commuter parking permit.

The South P lot is on campus…

Students take for granted the generous parking accommodation at Stony Brook. My postgraduate institution has virtually no parking at the main uptown campus.

Yea, you are right, technically south P is on campus but it is about a mile away from all the main academic buildings.

And after 4pm you can park in just about any lot on campus and by that time most of the lots have freed up space so it isn’t too bad.

Is it that bad even when you have a pass?

If you are a commuter, it depends upon when you get there. There is a bus every 5 minutes from South P that drops you off in the academic mall.

Honestly it is not that bad, or maybe I just quickly got used to it, I don’t know. You’ll quickly learn what times not to show up to the express bus stops cause tons of people will be waiting in line. You’ll want to avoid those times because you could end up watching 5 buses pass by you before you get on one.
