How hard is it to get accepted as a transfer?

Im currently a freshman as fgcu and I absolutely hate it here

Im gonna have 20 credit hours when I finish this year with about a 2.5 GPA

I wont have my aa by the time I apply either, but I have a lot of extra-circulars and Im hoping my gpa will be almost a 3 by application time

Im also white, mexican, asian, native american so would that help my chances at all either?

I wanna apply for fall 2012, or would it be easier to be accepted for summer 2011?

thanks! wanna get out of here asap

also im gonna major in marketing

I am currently a junior in high school and my GPA is less than desirable. I have a 2.3 unweighted and a 2.8 weighted. I am taking several online classes on, hopefully, boost my GPA up to a 2.5 unweighted by the beginning of my senior year. I took one SAT and received a 1450/2400 and I am scheduled to take another next month. Is there any chance I will be accepted to University of South Florida, University of Central Florida, Florida Gulf Coast University, and/or University of Tampa? If not, what Florida schools would be more in my reach. Thank you!

Hotdog, as far as your race/nationality goes, that will not help nor hinder your acceptance into UCF…nor should it at any other school for that matter. If you decide to apply to UCF with anything less than 60 credits or your A.A, you must meet the Freshman criteria for admissions. You’ll need to submit your high school transcripts, ACT and/or SAT scores, your college transcripts and you’ll definitely need a competitive GPA.

I would suggest that you stick it out at a Community College and receive your A.A, OR consider apply to UCF once you’ve gained about 45 credits and have a more competitive GPA.

Collegegurl, I would consider taking Dual Enrollment courses at your local Community College so that you can get more college credits while you’re in your Senior year next year. I’ve known high school students who have done that and either almost completed or have completed their A.A by the time they graduate high school. Keep taking the SAT and ACT to get your scores up to a competitive level, and definitely work on that GPA.

Good luck to both of you : )

Isnt it easier to get accepted as a transfer though as an incoming freshman?

In high school I had a 3.2 gpa, played baseball, diving, and track too and a 24 ACT

Yes it’s easier, but even more easier if you have your A.A. Your A.A. basically allows to better chance of getting accepted into a university (more specifically one in FL). I don’t think the admissions office will be more concerned with what your GPA was when you graduated high school than they are about what it currently is now. Honestly, it would be more beneficial for you to finish up at your current school then transfer to UCF. Even though you’ll be a “transfer” student you’ll only have about 20 something credits and the admissions office has no choice but to make you abide by the incoming freshman process.

Like I said before, if you get about 45 credits and get that GPA up you’ll be in better standing when it comes to getting and admissions decision. If you get your two required English Comp courses and two math courses(of your choice) out of the way you’ll also be in better standing as well.

P.S: If you’ve taken care of the English & Math requirements, and foreign language requirement (either in college or high school) and have at least a 2.0 when you apply, you’ll also have an even greater chance at getting accepted but that A.A. secures you.

Ohh, Im trying to transfer after next year, not this year so I’ll have around 45 credits by the end of next year. I’m just saying Ill probably have 20 when I send in my application…
How does that work though? Do I have to send in my transcript again after the first semester and again at the end of the year? Also whens a good time to apply?

Ive also already passed my 2 comp, foreign language and math classes too

You can apply now if you want since you’ve already passed those courses. You’ll need to send your transcript when you initially apply and they’ll probably ask you to send it again after you’ve gotten your 45 credits IF you are deferred. If you’re not deferred and they actually accept you based on the fact that you’ve completed both math and English requirements and foreign language requirement then the next time you’ll have to send your transcript would be after you get your A.A but then again I’m not exactly sure. Go ahead and apply and based on the term and year you want to attend you’ll more than likely get accepted now rather than get deferred after applying.

Seriously, transfer to a Community College, save some money, get your AA and then transfer into UCF with 60+ credits.

UCF is real funny on transfers because they have so many coming in from the “Direct Connect” they really don’t need to accept transfers with from other situations.

I did 60+ credits at U of Miami (private school/no AA program) and wanted to transfer directly into UCF. When I met with the admissions office they stated the only/best way to really get in as a transfer is to complete your AA. So I took some classes at a CC to get my AA, then used the Direct Connect program to get guaranteed admission into UCF.

I’m sure you can try to gain admission as a direct transfer, but a 2.5 gpa might inhibit you a bit.
