with and without honors programs (University Scholars, WISE, etc.)
I’m between Stony Brook and another school, but SBU is my first choice currently. I haven’t committed to Stony Brook yet because I’m concerned about class selection. Students say that the student class size keeps increasing, but classes themselves haven’t been adjusted appropriately for this increase.
I’ve also read that some students at Stony Brook have difficulty getting classes related to their major and have been forced to take classes that aren’t related to their interests. Some said they had to pay for additional classes over the summer or were considering transferring out due to setbacks in class selection. I’ve mostly seen sophomores, juniors, and seniors post about obstacles with class selection.
Are these experiences common? I’m a biology major (but am considering changing to chemistry or biochemistry if I commit) which seems to be a popular major there. Will I have issues selecting classes as a freshman and a sophomore? What are your experiences as juniors and seniors as well? Thank you in advance for any information you’re able to share!
