CoffeeAddict, I think you have a really good shot (8 or 9) if you can bring the CR score up. Everything else seems solid. I would try doing practice tests/getting review books/etc and re-taking the SAT in the fall. Or the ACT if you feel more comfortable with that.

Hey, I am also looking to go to NYU,
I have read for hours about applying to NYU and There is a nice youtube profile which shows in detail about NYU, from the “campus” to what your chances are of getting in
the youtube account is called theUrocks
they said

SAT range for writing: 660-730
SAT range Verbal: 620 -710
SAT range Math: 620-710
ACT Range: 27-31
Average GPA: 3.63

I really hope that this helps

do u guys know how hard is it to get into NYU Stern School of Business?

I have great EC’s but 11th percentile at tier 1 school, and im in IB

Wht ACT/SAT/SAT II scores would i need to get in?

I got in with a 1450 (its their exact median sat score) and a 93 uw, 94 w average… basically, my stats were exactly average for a stern student… and 14/167 in my class. so like 8th percentile… not bad… oh and sat ii’s i sent in math 1 -730 and two history sat ii’s…

Well my stats were pretty bad. 32 act and 2020 SAT (800 M 560 CR 660 W) and 3.9 GPA and still got into stern RD

I would definitely not say NYU is stats driven…I managed to get in with only a 3.6 GPA (albeit 1530/1600 SAT, pretty good EC’s), so it’s totally possible to make up deficiencies in one area of your application.

it is easy. You just need a 2200+ SAT score and top 10% in your class. That is how i got in.

@pwnzal
Those stats aren’t bad. Your GPA is above the Stern average and your ACT score is within the 50% median.

I got into Stern RD with a 32 ACT and a 3.75 GPA. But I also had a lot of EC’s, several leadership positions, an internship/job, and great recs. I put a lot of effort into my essays and supplements too. Stern isn’t solely academic driven. They actually care about the other stuff.

Hey sooo i know i am taking over butt
what about me…

SAT math: 680
CR: 470 !!!
WRITING: 610

AP bio, AP psych, AP stat, AP chem… and rest all of the classes are honors.
GPA: 3.1 unweighted
weighted: 5.0

STudent government, soccer, LOTS of volunteering nad showing experience, awards and etc
now everytime i taka practice test i get like a 600 on CR, 720s in MATH soo i hope that will be my REAL SCORE OIN OCTOBER!!!

SO what are my chances of NYUUU? i am retaking my SAT in october…
soo do i have to tell NYU to not look at my application untill i retake my SAT?

Definitely concentrate on your CR score, that ones going to kill you in the admissions process unless you get it up.

Hi guys first time poster! NYU is the school I have been dreaming to attend for years now and I wanted to know if my stats are impressive enough to get accepted there for the 2015 class. I have a 3.5/3.6 GPA (excluding Senior year- this fall) I got a 2100 on my SATs. 700 in each section. Im taking a few SAT2s in the fall. The reason I want to go to NYU is because it has an international reputation and unlike many other schools it is very diverse and has international exposure as a central component to its education. I dont have a lot of ECs. BUt I have been a student ambassador for my high school four times, traveling to Japan, Russia, Italy and South Korea. And I have been apart of Habitat for Humanity since freshman year and I now lead the school chapter. I’m a little worried about my GPA. Will it affect me?

Where does your GPA put you in terms of class rank at your high school? Even if your school doesn’t rank, you should be able to get a sense of where you stand from the school profile. Also, rigor is important. You should have taken advanced levels in many of your classes.

I don’t completely agree with the statement that admission is entirely focused on academic stats. I have an 88 GPA and a 1780 SAT score and I managed to get into Ticsh (2015) Regular Decision. I’ll be the first to admit that I am not a great (even good) mathematician or a grammatical genius. My point is that they take other factors into account, in my case I have a very high diversity factor (not gay) and have been exposed to multiple cultures. Also a solid essay helps.

1) This thread is quite old.
2) Tisch is the exception to rule. CAS and Stern ESPECIALLY it is completely about the stats. The deciding factor isn’t usually stats in CAS and Stern, since most applicants have the required stats and the only major distinguishing factor is not academic. For example: The average stats for CAS and Stern are higher than Tisch because there is no portfolio and the admissions process is not based on talent in X area, as it is with Tisch.
3) Are you saying that not being gay is a diversity factor?

This post is so classic

I agree with OnlyaPlant. I got into CAS with a 3.38 GPA and a 2190 SAT/32 ACT. I can only assume it’s because of my ECs, essay, and supplemental short answer responses. Nothing else would distinguish me from much more “statistically qualified” applicants.

^^^ You got a 2190 on the SAT. That’s in the top 25% of students. Which makes you more than statistically qualified. Which means that statistically, you were an acceptable candidate. And it was therefore your other credentials IN ADDITION to your stats qualifications that got you an acceptance.

OnlyaPlant is stating that admissions is not highly focused on stats. For Tisch, that is true. For example, the bottom 25th percentile SAT is 1860. It’s not unusual for Tisch students to score under the 25%, have lower GPAs and still be accepted because the admissions board for Tisch is basing admissions on talent, not academic ability.

The opposite is true for CAS/Stern/etc. Academic ability is that standard required for admission to CAS/Stern/etc. Then differentiating factors between potential candidates, such as EC’s etc. are the deciding factor of whether any candidate gets accepted over any other candidate.

If, paperbackhead, you were trying to argue that NYU’s selection process is not highly statistically involved and quoted your credentials in an attempt to back that up, you
counter-attitudinally argued against yourself. Since by providing your stats you proved that you were in fact academically qualified, rather than not being so. For example, if your GPA had been 3.38 and your SAT had been somewhere around or below 1860, then your providing of your own statistics would have more logical sense and given cohesiveness to your point.

I know this thread is old, and i dont even know if anyone will read this, but here are my stats! What do you think my chances are???
I am a Junior in high school and i’m just wondering my chances as of right now, my stats aren’t great but i still have my junior year to improve and i plan on working a LOT harder this year then i ever have.

SAT: 1900 (without preparing, i am retaking them again and plan on scoring higher… hopefully 2100 or higher)
GPA unweighted: 3.6 Weighted 3.9
Rank: 50 out of 312 (definitely plan on improving this)
Extracurriculars(will be when i graduate): 4 years of marching band, 4 years of the school musical, 4 years of concert band, concert choir, chorale, orchestra, show choir and woodwind ensemble, 2 years of jazz band, humanitarian club, earth club, mock trial, the demon press (our school paper), yearbook, and National Honors Society(hopefully next year) i have done community theater since i was 5, and i have been in the Kennett Symphony Children’s Chorus for 7 years.

Community service: 60 hours at a theater camp, 35 hours at a sports camp, and 20 hours at the lions club

I plan on attending a summer program for high school students at University of Pittsburgh next summer.

Oh and i plan on applying to CAS for journalism and double major eventually in either film or dramatic writing (if i am able to since it is within tisch) if i’m not able to do them i will double major in something else.

hi

i am really interested in NYU gallatin i was wondering if i could speak to someone who attended or is attending the school. on another note what is the social scene like? do i need a fake? any good place to get one?
