How hard is it to get into The University of Maryland College Park?

I want to go to this school and I need to know how difficult their admissions office is. I really need some personal experiences from people that actually got accepted by that school.(SAT scores, GPA, and how many extracurriculars) Was it easy, hard,... average? Please share with me.

2 more questions:
If I had a 2.7 GPA, what would straight A's for 3 quarters do to it? And what is a weighted GPA?

dont be so desperate, theyll never let you in this way.

anyways, I went to hs in north MD. with larger schools like college park ,its pretty much a cut and dry numbers game as they have to review, process, admit/deny A LARGE NUMBER of people compared to other smaller schools. Hence they really focus on gpas and SATs. They will have cut offs they will assign each year like 3.0 gpa 1150 (old sat score)

I had friends albeit 3 years ago who applied. The ones who go in all had sat scores of around 1200 or higher on the old sat. and had high gpas over 3.5 easilily Id say.

If you gpa is indeed a 2.7, you better have quite high test scores and quite a few interesting ex currics.

Also where you are applying from can help or hurt you. If you are in MD your guidance counselor can give you a good idea of the scores last years class needed to get in

It largely depends on where you're from, your school, etc..
I went to public high school in central MD (a competitive one), where a large portion of my class went to UMD.

On average, however, most students from my school who went to UMD had a higher average than 2.7, and probably an SAT score around 1200.

A weighted GPA will take into account your honors/GT/AP classes. Your guidance counselor should have this information, and is probably the best place to go to see what types of students from your school have been accepted.

Here's the freshman profile

under most notable historic events on the MD website will be "George Washington almost died here" and "Capital of the KKK"

I love Mirland

I got a 1430 on the SAT and my scores for the 3rd time I took it didnt come out yet. Will they accept a 1430? And is it true that they only look at the highest scores of each section from all the times you take it and add those up for your final SAT score?

dx000 --
Did you get 1430 on the critical reading + math, or does that number include the writing section as well? Yes, they will "superscore" - they will look at all of your test dates and take the highest score from each section and add them up for your total score. However, I think your GPA is too low to be a competitive candidate. Even if you got straight A's this semester, it wouldn't raise it by that much. But you never know! Be sure to apply by December 1, and you will get an answer by late February. Good luck!

I got 1430 with the writing section included too. If I got straight A's for 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarter, what would it do to my GPA? Thanks for the help.

plz answer

plz comeon

sorry, but i think your chances are slim in a school with a 44 percent acceptance rate

Unfortunately, 1430 is a below-average score. Unless the writing score is abysmal and your other sections are better (some schools don't take writing seriously), your SAT score will only hurt you. Try to improve your grades and really crack down on studying for the SAT or ACT.

According to their admissions office, UMD College Park doesn't consider SAT writing section scores. They look at your highest CR and math.
