How hard is it to get into the Upenn CAS/DMD 7 years program? It's the 7 year that allows you to go from Upenn CAS (3 years) straight to Upenn Dental (4 years).

What kind of stats would I need as a high schooler? How hard is it compared to getting into Upenn CAS w/ no program? Is there a lot of competition, or are there not many applicants for this program?

Please help. This program is my top choice, and I'll do whatever I can to get in.

So far, I have:
top 5% of class of 300. Good public school (silver rank)
2100 SAT (will improve to 2200+, I'm a sophomore)
President of 2 clubs, captain of academic challenge, member of 2 other clubs
0 volunteer hours (Is this vital for dental programs? I plan to do some volunteering at a hospital)
40 shadowing hours of a dentist
Science fair 1st place (tri state) Biochem (and numerous other lesser science fair related awards)
My name is on a patent of a molecular tool
Soccer freshmen year (lololololol)
District orchestra, also in "mainline youth chamber orchestra of philidelphia" for violin
concertmaster of school orchestra

Hm? Please answer all my questions. If you do, I'll love you forever.

Please don't tell me "you're a sophomore, enjoy high school and don't worry about it yet"
Because I want to have a good future, and something to aim for. I have a social life and plenty of friends, please do not worry about me enjoying High School... LOl.

THANKS!

Probably harder than just getting into UPenn CAS. I think CAS and the dental school might look for different things, because I don’t think some of the people in the UPenn biodental program with other linked undergrad schools (Muhlenburg, Villanova, Lehigh, etc.) got into UPenn undergrad. UPenn will hold you up to their standard while the dental school wants to see commitment to dentistry.

So IMO, the hardest part in getting into this program is getting into UPenn CAS. The requirements to go onto the dental school aren’t easy either. Apply to some of the other schools this program is linked with as a backup. You look to be doing fine so keep doing what you’re doing.

Thanks!! Any more opinions? Also do any of you know if I can still go regular CAS if I’m rejected by the dental school? Or is it a “all or nothing” program…

bumppppppppppppppppppppppppp

probably harder than getting into to the most bamd combined programs. upenn dental school has become more difficult to get into than the most medical schools. if you understand all the healthcare arguments, and how the physicians complain about managed care and low fees that they receive, you will understand why admission to a dental school is getting more competitive than a medical school. upenn dental school provides excellent academics as well as great clinical experiences. the name upenn will stay with you all your life, which will help you in many ways. only one draw back is that the money you will have to pay back for going to upenn undergrad and dental school. discuss it with your parents after receiving the acceptance letter and financial package upenn will give you.

Thanks for the feedback!! How hard is harder than most bamd combined programs? What should I do to help me get into this program?
