their average GPA for the 2011 incoming class was a 4.12 I believe and a 1950 SAT. But I could be off by a bit on the SAT. But UCSB is getting harder and harder to get into each year. They rejected every single waitlist candidate this year

I am a junior in high school and I am dying to go to UCSB. I have an average of a 4.0 grade average, I took the psat and the history subject test so far, I am going on a mission trip out of state for church, I am in Link, Interact, Helping Kids be Kids, and CSF. Plus I will be doing dance for 4 years in high school and participating in GWAM later this semester. I worked at my uncle’s community discount card company for two years and I have about 150 hours of community service. Do you think I will get in?!?!

It also depends on the DIFFICULTY of your high school.

For example, I met a UCSB student from Palos Verdes. She was admitted two years ago with a 3.1 GPA, all CP classes, and an SAT score in the 1100s. The high schools in Palos Verdes are notoriously rigorous. Yet, the UCs have the obligation to enroll a certain amount of students from each high school.

It is not predictable since this contradicts you are out of the running in a competitive high school. You can always look at your high school’s admissions statistics from previous years to get a better idea.

However, the best option could be to look into SBCC and live near UCSB in Isla Vista for the college social life. My cousin attended SBCC and was very happy there, even as a commuter student. She transferred to the New School in NYC after a 4.0 GPA, but failing a Calculus-based Physics class in her last semester.

In short, if you go to SBCC take all of your classes seriously because the UCSB freshman can get Cs and earn a degree. SBCC transfers not only have to meet a GPA requirements, but enter a competitive pool for transfer admission and meet prerequisite major course GPAs.

how hard is it this year?

Do you think I would get in usb?

@dededede I had a 1870 SAT and 3.75 UC GPA and got in. You seem like an even more qualified candidate so I’d expect that you’d get in. Looking at this thread has made me realize how much harder UCSB is to get into now. I wouldn’t be surprised if acceptances rates were less than 25% in a decade or so.
