I was invited into a stern scholars program and I would like to know how hard it is to maintain a 3.5 at stern, while still having a great social life.

It's not too hard, as long as "great social life" doesn't mean getting smashed every weekend. I assume if you've been invited to be a Scholar, you're definitely capable of handling the academic work. Just make sure you're on top of things freshman year, because people often have trouble adjusting to the new way of grading, and it's difficult to recover from a really bad freshman year.

how bad is the curve?

It will only affect at most half of your Stern classes, probably, and it's not so bad. Most classes will naturally have a distribution fairly close to the curve. I can't say I've really ever been screwed over by a curve.

bump....bump

bump...bump

I was wondering the same. I want to keep a 4.0, that's my personal goal. 10 bucks says it gets smashed within a couple weeks.

4.0? All As? Not even A-s? That's a very lofty goal...if you achieve it, more power to you

I'm in Stern Scholars...3.5's not that hard to make (I got a 3.775 my first semester) but 4.0 is kind of unrealistic, unless you are either very good at writing progressions (I hate progressions with my soul) or just lucky. Definitely AP out of as many classes as you can (eg Nat Sci/econ) because it'll be so much easier that way.

kyang//

NYU doesn't give credit for AP econ classes:(
(starting from class of 2006)

all my years taking, microecon, macroecon, statistics, and calculus.
They are worthless now :(

Economics - Macroeconomics No credit No course equivalent No Credit
Economics - Microeconomics No credit No course equivalent No Credit
Mathematics AB, BC No credit No course equivalent No Credit
Statistics No credit No course equivalent No Credit

that sux, i never took a science AP but I took the other APs that they are not giving credit for

the thing is...taking an AP class sort of gives you an estimate of how well you know the material (though 5 does not necessarily equal A)

it's definitely not worthless because you're learning things...plus i have all of my AP scores on my resume...looks good

you have your AP scores on your Resume? do you also put SAT scores?

Yeah. I'm a freshman right now (about to be sophomore), and so I'm struggling to fill up a page, AP and SAT scores help a lot in that

oh ok, did you find an internship for the summer?
