How hard is it to maintain a 3.5 GPA?/ Question about Honors Program

I will be attending Northeastern as a Nursing major this fall!
I was also invited to the Honors Program, but I'm slightly apprehensive about joining, because of the GPA requirement.
Is it difficult to maintain a 3.5 GPA at Northeastern? I attend a very competitive high school, and my GPA has always been just below a 3.5, and I'm worried it will be even harder at Northeastern.

I'm thinking about about doing Honors anyways, because, I might as well give it a try! But do many people end up being dropped because they don't meet the GPA requirement? If you do get dropped from the program, are you looked down by other students? :</p>

I’ve not personally heard of anyone who dropped out of the Honors program.

Other students will only know if you tell them, and most people have better things to do.

my senior year roommate had “dropped out” of the honors program because she just didn’t really care, I guess, and didn’t want to go out of her way to fulfill the honors coursework. She graduated with a 3.9 and is now at a top med school. Otherwise I don’t personally know of anyone who left.

After freshman year, literally no one cares if you’re in honors or not. The first year, you spend a little more time with honors kids because of dorms/honors classes. Eventually you meet people in other ways and your friend group will be diverse-- I have friends who were in honors (I wasn’t) and friends who weren’t. It was a non-issue.

If you got into the Honors Program, I’m betting you’ll be able to maintain a 3.5.

Even if you can’t, it’s not like they have so big expulsion ceremony and humiliate you as they kick you out. No one would know/care.

I don’t even know if they really kick you out. You would just not end up with “Honors Course Distinction” or whatever when you graduated. There are probably a good amount of Honors Program students with high GPAs who don’t end up with the distinction anyway just because they don’t feel like taking the courses. (I came close, but ended up deciding to finish it.)

I don’t think there’s much of a downside to joining. You get access to better housing, so that’s cool. If you decide you hate the Honors Program or feel like you’re stressing out too much because of the GPA requirement, you can just stop signing up for the classes. It’s not a big thing.

I’m an honors nursing major! You should be very proud of yourself - there are only 5 of us in my year, so it’s pretty rare. The nursing curriculum is very difficult and requires a lot of studying. However, it is certainly manageable. If you’ve attended a difficult high school and done well, then you should be fine. They would not have placed you in the honors program if they didn’t think that you had the ability to succeed. If something ends up happening and you don’t do as well as you hoped, no one will even know that you left the honors program if you don’t say anything. Not a big deal at all :)
