How hard is it?

Okay I'm not from California and I know that UCSB's out of state acceptance rate is like <10%. However, I do pretty well in school, I think I have about a 3.8/9 unweighted GPA, 32 ACT, and I'm going to take 6 AP classes. My EC's are pretty solid too. Do you think I could get in? Also if, by some chance, I get in, would I be accepted by the kids there or do they generally not like out of state kids? Thanks

Your stats are most definitely competitive for UCSB, and since you said your EC is solid, then that part will be up to you to appeal to them. Every year, the UC campuses look at different possible ways to better their campuses. That means that your essays should make you the student they want. That’s the hard part. Passion! <- Answer to everything.

According to StatFinder, the out-of-state acceptance rate was actually 48%.

really? i thought the total acceptance rate was 48%
regarding the title of this thread…–> thats what she said.
:)

I got in out of state. My unweighted gpa was 3.78 and UC weighted about 4.0. My act was only 29. So you should be very much in consideration. I think my essasies really helped me out. Try to avoid the cliche “overcame adversity” thing. I did and I got in. Lastly, if the two essay topics are the same as this year, with the optional third, use that optional third to mention how UCSB is your top choice and how you really WANT to be there.

Yeah, look it up on StatFinder. I made a post a week ago about it being a myth that UC to UC transfers having a very low acceptance rate, however, the same holds true for out-of-state freshman applicants.

HAHAHAHAHA yishyosh, that was the first thing i thought of when i read the title of the post.
