How hard is it to get into UCSB?

I am only a sophomore in High School so I have time, but I just want to be prepared. My dream school and so far my plan is to go to UCSB. I am in MD right now so I would be out of state. I currently have a cumulative gpa of 3.84 unweighted and 4.2 weighted. I take Honors classes whenever possible and will take 4 AP classes (statistics, world history, calc AB, physics) and a 6 credit completer course in Computer Tech (3 Honors/3 AP) as well as some business classes by graduation. I have not gotten a B since i took algebra 1 and eng 1 in 8th grade. I plan on getting no more than 2 more B's. I have 120 service hours and counting.

The only thing is that I dont do a lot of extra curricular stuff. I have been in a couple clubs but nothing big. I plan on doing Key club (ill get tons more service hours). I was thinking of doing a sport but I would only do something like Track or Tennis because I would only do it for one spring season because i am going to start working a lot and this is my last chance. Would that look worse than not doing a sport? I heard that sticking with EC's is better than a lot of them. What do you recommend? And by the looks of everything would I have a good chance of getting into UCSB as out of state?

It’s really hard to get accepted there. I had a 4.0 unweighted, was captain of the varsity football team, won the state championship, and was SGA president to boot. I was waitlisted, then denied.

I thought UCSB is not releasing their decision until March 21st …

there is a lot of information here
[University Of California Santa Barbara, California](http://www.citytowninfo.com/school-profiles/university-of-california-santa-barbara)

try this link: [University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/statfinder/default.aspx)

then after picking all the correct prompts (freshman/out of state, etc.) pick complex table and pick unweighted GPA and SAT as your two metrics. The table will then give you %admit by SAT/GPA band.

What it won’t tell you is that a good % of the lower statted admits are from two categories that you probably are not in: recruited athlete, and Hardship (single parent, low income, 1st generation college, physical or mental hurdle, lousy HS, etc.)

@Cherrios

Unless, you had a sexual assault on your record, really bad subject tests or a 1400 SAT, I doubt your story.

^meteman,

It took me all of 60 seconds to search on past posts by Cherrios to learn that:

1) he is a college Sophomore at a 4 year state school
2) his HS GPA was 3.3 with at 2200 SAT
3) he is applying currently as a Transfer student to a few Ivies and other schools
4) He has a 3.9 college GPA with 47 units and 12 addtiional units from AP
5) In college he has no ECs to speak of, and particularly no athletic ECs.

and yeah, he’s a ■■■■■ at heart for posting BS… so I assume he’s either bored or PWD - posting while drunk. See the movie Facebook – don’t ever PWD.

You do realize you’re looking at around $50K/year to attend, with financial aid quite limited for OOS students?

My bad, I meant my friend had those stats and still got rejected. His SAT score was kind of bad (around 1500 out 2400, he had a bad day).

Check to see if your school participates in ELC (if you go to school in CA, that is). ELC students (top 4% of class, changing to different percent though I believe) are auto-admits to ELC schools–UCSB has participated in the past. This might change depending on the year you apply, so you should contact UCSB!

hey there!
I don’t know if this is a late response but… your stats sound pretty similar to mine! and i’m a senior right now (:
the thing is… i was a district board member of the CA-NV-HA key club and I was pretty active in terms of my extracirriculars…

if it helps, i’ve already been accepted to uci & usc (with a chance at a full ride)… if you keep your grades up, i’m sure you’ll get in! (:

received an invitation from UCSB to attend UC Santa Barbara Reception for high-achieving applicants

Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott

but they will not post the decision on the web until March 21 …

anyone else receive this invitation ???
