how hard is orgo?

you have to take here as pre med, I mean, not have to, but med schools probably wouldn't look kindly upon it

now i gotta stop putting off studying, final is tomorrow

organic chemistry here is by no means impossible. All you need to do well is

1) Go to lecture
2) Do the coursepack

You're guaranteed a B if you both.

So does anybody get an A?

Approximately 15% get an A/A-, so yes many do.

Many people get an A. Honestly, here's the truth to it.

As much as I am whining and moaning about it, Orgo I is not that bad. For me, I'm not seeing my results for the amount of time I put in, it's probably a bit of my study habits, or just how I study.

The class, isn't bad. My professor, Nolta is freaking amazing. She basically teaches you Orgo, and makes it seem easy. You just have to apply it. As long as you put in some time, and realize that Orgo doesn't come naturally to most people, then anyone who takes it should do fine.

ok so it is totally feasible

Very much so. I'm gonna go take the final now. :D

That final lol... i hated the ozone one. took way too long. i spotted the 2 at like the last min.

my roomate took the final exam today. He said it was the hardest exam he ever took.

I need to take Organic Chemistry and I'm already really afraid by all these! lol...I think taking Org Chem as a HS course wud never hurt....u've nothing to lose..well unless if u start slacking in college in that course.

that was the most f'd up exam ever. I freeze on Orgo exams so I know I f'd it up. Sigh, and I took Fall's exam and actually did decent

i'm gonna go sit in a corner and ponder on how badly i failed (literally) the class

ps: it was bad

awww what was the test ovver!
you are makin me feel really sad! i hope that the curve is supppper high and that you did better than you think! you seem smart so i bet you did alooot better than you think! =)

what makes the exam so hard, the content or applying the concept to a problem?

Seriously, you guys shouldn't worry too much about it. Who knows it may come naturally to you. Just work hard, and you guys will do fine. BTW, this final was 61%. lol I look up to Cvjn for taking it this Spring. I had enough of Orgo for now. Blackpen what makes it hard is the amount of content. The content itself is easy. But on some questions you have to combine everything you know to solve one problem. And sometimes that question extends through 1/5 of the exam.

when I took Orgo at Michigan, the worst thing about it is how all the questions are new, nothing is very much like the coursepack, there's literally no way of getting a single point unless you know orgo; all you get is 4-5 blank pages and some boxes and everything is connected, you mess up one part, and you end up losing points elsewhere too. I was told by several TAs that Michigan had the toughest Organic Chemistry course in the country, and I think it's true too, I've looked up other elite schools' orgo exams(MIT, Harvard to name a few) and none of them just give you blank pages. They usually have some multiple choice, true/false, fill in the blank type of questions.

I don't recommend Orgo for a freshman, but a lot of freshman do take it first semester and I think they are making a mistake.

wow! keefer, that does sound difficult!
blackpen. So you have reactions from organic 1 and new reactions in organic 2...and i know for me, we have to remember reactions from all the way in organic one & the rules that go with them, to do some of the problems in organic 2. This is one of the reasons that also makes this test difficult.

Also there are very little details that apply to one reaction but not the other. You have to remember that rule for that reaction is order to know whether or not to use that reaction on that problem.

I would say orgo 2 is slightly easier than one because you know what to expect and you have gotten the hang of things from takin orgo 1.
you will be fine. Just study and DO NOT cram!!

I heard the 210 exam today was brutal. Last semester 210 was 64+ for a B, so you guys will be alright.

Honestly, I just need to pass. That's the big thing I'm worried about. Yes, I think I did that bad.

Anyways guys, what was bad about this test... hmm

You're given 30 more minutes, and one extra page (6 instead of 5). There are a lot of little things that you can miss, that can really screw your points. The boxes, weren't... foreign, but you can really tell that there was a lot of things that were lightly covered before, that was covered here.

It's always great when you see a small box, that says, DRAW ALL THE RESONANCE (10 points) and you're just like... well... crap.Or when you see an entire page of just boxes and like, three arrows; and it'll be like, this is what you end up with, now make us a reaction. Go. Oh yes, it's 30 points.

Overall, Nolta did a great job of writing this test. As much as I can't take Orgo tests (I really can't, I think I know this material), it really tested you on EVERYTHING. There were problems that made you think, and ones that you thought were easy, but in actuality, weren't.

The difference between this test, and Capola's, was ... you can tell what were hard problems on Capola's. They were like, omg, I've never seen this, what the F am I supposed to do, oh I have 10 minutes left...

This one was more like, I'm 60-70% sure this is how you do it... even though I've never seen anything like it before.

Oh joy.

OMG! i haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate resonance structures. esp. when you have to draw like....50 of them! & you start redrawing the same crap & then you realize it is the same thing and have to start allll over. or if you forget to move some electrons and have to start over! or when you forget arrows and charge signs! i haaaaaaaaaaaate them! Ill be so happy if i never had to see a resonance structure again, but i KNOW that wont be happening! =(

lol if anyone cares

B-

all I have to say is what the f?
