I've heard that UNC is super easy in state but super hard if your out of state due to the state legislature requiring a certain percent of students be OOS (82% In state 18% OOS for UNC). I just want to know if this is the case. Also, if you would please take a look at my other thread and chance me. Thank You :) http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1296280-what-my-chances-get-into-unc.html

Bump…

Another bump…

Unc is not super easy even for in state students. From what I’ve gathered from around the web a little under 50% of in-state applicants are accepted. Most of these applicants are pretty good.

By the way our chances look almost identical as far as gpa and stuff goes. Good luck.

UNC takes the “cream of the crop” from NC. Generally, if you maintain a 3.6+ GPA and do decently (28+) on the ACT or a 1900+ on the SAT, you have a pretty good shot in-state. These are just my thoughts … I could be wrong. I am also an in-state applicant.

^ The above poster is correct. UNC-Chapel Hill is selective, of course, but if you’re from NC and you are in all of your high school’s H/AP courses, maintain a GPA of 3.6 or higher. and get in the 2000-2400 range in your SATs then you have a great chance.

Out of staters have a difficult path-one that mirrors Ivy League admissions. My friend had a 4.41 W, 3.98 UW GPA in all tough courses, 2340 SAT and still didn’t get in. Maybe they have something against Bostonians…IDK ;)

Good luck with your app! I’d say you have a great shot!

Thanks for all the replies; I’ve been nervous for the past week because I don’t think I’ll get in and have to resort to NCSU, which is like working at a strip club for me haha.
