Hey, I was admitted into physics, but I want to get the most out of my time. I want to have Chem as a second major, but have no idea if this is possible due to the credit cap. I am totally willing to take summer classes, but I don't have any applicable AP credit. Can anyone advise me in this? Thanks!

Credit limit will not be a problem as long as you can get out of there in 4 years. They’ll give you extra units (I recently got 37 extra approved for my App Math + Phys double)

honestly i wouldnt major in chem…the entire chem dept here is terrible, faculty are bad, and TAs are bitter bitter…

^ Sorta kinda agree with that statement. I’ve had about a mixed experience with the whole chem thing. So far, professors seem be either really hard but great lecturer or vice-versa or just plain bad. TA’s are OKAY. I met several nice ones, but sometimes they’re not really helpful. The above don’t really bother me that much, cause from what I’ve found, the learning occurs mostly between you and the book anyways for most classes.

BUT, dealing anything administrative related is a pain in the butt. Ask them a question, they direct you to someone else, a form, or something posted. Need a class for your major? Well, you’re f*&k out of luck, it’s “out of [their] hands.”

To be fair, I should really say Denise when I mean “them.” She is what you call the stereotype of a bureaucratic worker. Don’t expect to be treated like an intelligent human being. (The other lady’s alright though. Agetha? Angela?)

naw they are both bad…and ya denise is terrible…the only good person ive come across is professor russell…i emailed her asking her whether she would teach bl in the fall of next year and she gave me her answer and she was really nice bout it…much better than lavelle

Well, from what I’ve heard, it’s not too hard to beat Lavelle as professor. (Same goes for Scerri… >_> )

I’ve had my best experience so far with Dr. Bauer. She’s so nice, but okay as a lecturer (but that’s alright since it’s her first time). In office hours she’s much more helpful and patient. (Even if you ask her stupid questions, or ask something that gives away you haven’t been doing the homework or reading.)

what does bauer look like i think ive seen the prof before

^ Um… straight-ish blonde, mid 20’s to early thirties. Has glasses. 5’5"?

lol ok never mind then haha

As a chemistry major, I highly disagree with all of you. The professors in the chem department have offered me a much better educational experience than any other department.

Don’t discourage people from majoring in chem. It’s the best department I found in the whole school which is why I switched into it.

lol ok ur one opinion

^ Second that. Hahaha.

I’m a former chem major wannabe, but not due to everything that I’ve experienced so far. The chem major just doesn’t offer the right careers for me. (It’s a bit limited outside of research.)

Chem is fun. Sometimes the lectures are even interesting. I probably just chose the wrong professors. But I hate doing any administrative-related matters, because unlike professors, the administrative staff don’t seem to be changing every single quarter. If you love chem, go for it. I don’t think there are any real obstacles in order to get rich experience, just be prepared for extreme annoyance and frustration sometimes.
