I am still in high school, but I'm looking to go to a early college called Bard College at Simon's Rock. You go there for two years and get an AA, and then transfer to another school. There has been kids who went to NYU from Bard College at Simon's Rock. I would like to transfer as a drama & print journalism major. Is it the same as you would for freshman? Would I have to audition for the acting and then once I get in go to the journalism? Also, I'm a film actor so would it be possible for me to do the Stonestreet Program? How hard would it be for me to do this? Also, I was also intrested in a certificate for television writing: Television Writing Certificate: Tisch School of the Arts at NYU

Is that open admission, and do you have to be in college to do it? Are certificates useless compared to an BA? Thanks!

tisch and CAS are completely separate schools with seperate requirements. as it is, a journalism major is REQUIRED to double major within the college of arts and science, so it would be impossible to be enrolled in both tisch and CAS.

when you apply for transfer, you can only select ONE program and apply under that program. if you are not accepted to that one program, your entire application is rejected.

i don’t know what the Stonestreet Program is, sorry.

I do know, but they told me for a freshman, I would have to apply for tisch then go to journalism. Is it the same way for a transfer student?

i think i’m just confused as to what major you’re doing in tisch. is it dramatic writing, television writing or drama (in the institute of performing arts)?

you could transfer to tisch and then transfer internally to CAS, but i think it would be really impossible to triple-major. (tisch major PLUS journalism PLUS major within CAS). maybe you could minor in something in cas? (it doesn’t look like you can minor in journalism, from their webpage.)

both are really competitive programs in which to transfer to. tisch is the smaller of the two programs, so that would be more difficult to transfer into, but the journalism is really competitive here.

sorry if i’m confusing you! argh!

I said in my first post it was drama. The drama major would be my other major, and would count instead of the major in CAS.

won’t work. the journalism department won’t let you. my friend tried having a major in steinhardt count as the second major under the journalism major and his advisor said it wasn’t possible. it has to be within CAS.

I’ve heard of Tisch students with double majors in Journalism, so it is possible. Though you have to first get into Tisch, and then apply for a double major in journalism, not the other way around.

Not sure about transfers. I don’t know if you can complete the amount of credits in time since Tisch itself requires a lot and then you’re adding on another major, all in just two years? I don’t know. Your credits might not all completely transfer. Your best bet is to just apply to NYU Tisch directly instead of going to Bard first, it’ll be a lot more difficult to get in but…yeah.

And a certificate really can’t compare to a degree…lol

huh, i was wrong. thanks, bimachris. my friend tried to do a media double major while he was already in CAS. that’s probably why it didn’t work, he wasn’t in Steinhardt first. thanks for clearing stuff up!

Yeah bimach, that’s what NYU told me. On the website it said you can double major, so we’ll see.

Would it be possible to still graduate in the 2 years and double major? Would I have time for a Stonestreet?

early_college…I answered this on another thread for you today. The answer is NO.

You cannot even do the BFA in Drama at Tisch in two years, let alone double major.
Further, as I explained to you on the other thread, you cannot do Stonestreet until after two years in a primary acting studio in Tisch. Then you must audition to get into Stonestreet after completing two full years of studio in another studio at Tisch.

As another student told you above and I already told you, your best bet is to enter Tisch as a freshman, not a transfer (which is even lower odds) and also even if you transfer, then do so as a rising sophomore which means soph status at NYU academically and freshman status in the BFA program at Tisch. It may be hard to double major with Drama and Journalism but even harder if a transfer.

I’m sorry I remember you saying that you can get a BFA in 2 years no matter what. It may have been the other person.
