So I got accepted to Tisch, and I'm having a little pre-college crisis and I think I want to switch to Stern.

Would this be possible?

Or better yet, can you double major in tisch and stern?

I don't think it is. If it is it's probably damn hard.

I'm pretty sure you have to wait at least one semester

I heard transfer to stern is near impossible..

If it's for film and television, I'll gladly take your spot!

You have to wait a year before transferring into another school. As for transferring to stern, there are a lot of requirements; it's usually difficult. So basically, start with some gen eds your first year that you know will qualify for stern credit, and then apply at the end of your first year. I'm currently doing the internal transfer to Steinhardt, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Good luck.

One of the things I hate about NYU with a passion is the harsh and bureaucratic divisions between the schools. If you are a major in school X you largely cannot take any classes in school Y, with a few exceptions such as GE which are largely in CAS, and some art classes for certain CAS majors.

It is all the same god **** university, why the restrictions? I don't think I have seen any other school that is as draconian as that.

yeah, i got in for film and telev, but I think i really want to go tostern

what about double majoring?

From what I've heard, Stern is impossible to transfer into from CAS, I'd imagine it would be even harder to do so from Tisch, because half of your application was a portfolio, right?

good luck!

You can't double major with Tisch and Stern. Between all of the "specialized" schools (Tisch, Stern, and Steinhardt), there is no double majoring. If you're in one of those three schools, you can double major in CAS, but if you're in CAS, it's hard to transfer to Tisch and Stern, though I think Steinhardt is relatively easy. But ya. And it wouldn't be harder to transfer from Tisch to Stern just like it is from any other school...they obviously would take your grades and test scores into question, just as if you were transferring from CAS or something like that. There are a lot of hidden brainiacs in Tisch, because it's one of the most difficult BFA schools to get into academically.

I think your best bet would be to wait it out in Tisch for a year and then try to do an internal transfer between first and second semester (quite difficult to Stern) and see how it goes. Or, you could transfer to CAS second semester from Tisch, almost guaranteed. There's an Econ major in CAS.

Transferring from CAS to Stern is doable, but it's very competitive. I can't say how a Tisch to Stern transfer would work, but you should look at the Stern transfer requirements.

Exactly how competitive/hard is it to transfer to Stern from CAS?

from what I've heard, it's hard to transfer colleges in NYU. You have to wait at least a year (or maybe a semester, I don't know for sure).

And transfers to Stern are tough in general. It's very competitive, so make sure to do well in whatever school you're in right now, and fulfill any Stern requirements you may need. Good luck
