How heavily does UMICHIGAN comsider freshman year grades?

I’m a junior and UMichigan is one of my top schools. However, I’m concerned about my freshman year. I didn’t do amazing. I never got any Cs, but I got quite a few Bs my freshman year. I took 2 honors classes and my UNWEIGHTED GPA was 3.43 first semester, and 3.57 second semester. 2nd semester also includes a B in ceramics (still don’t know how this happened and makes no sense) but not including that my GPA for academic classes was 3.60. I know that’s far below UMichigans average, but I picked it up my sophomore year & thus far my junior year. I got a 3.86 UNWEIGHTED GPA both semesters sophomore year & first semester junior year. This includes very rigorous corses. My schedule / transcript for sophomore & junior year 1st semester are as follows.

10th grade (same trasncipt both semesters):

Math 3 Honors - B
Honors Chemistry - A
Honors English 2 - A
AP US History - A (4 on AP Exam)
Business Law (S1): A // Consumer Ed (S2): A
Spanish 2 - A

Junior year first semester:

Honors Precalculus- B
AP Chemistry - A
AP Lang - A
AP US Gov - A
Honors Physics - A
Honors Spanish 3 - A

My freshman year was below the average, but the past 3 semesters I’ve averaged a 3.86 GPA unweighted and only gotten 1 B every semester. My overall GPA unweighted is 3.71 and my weighted is 4.20, both including my freshman year grades. My average for sophomore year & S1 junior are 4.52 weighted and 3.86 unweighted, as previously stated. This includes an A in AP Chemistry, one of the hardest courses at my school, where I was the only A in my class this semester. I’ve improved vastly, and I’m just wondering how much my freshman year grades will hurt me. Thanks!

Upward trend and your doing fine. Don’t worry about it. Keep taking rigorous classes and do well in them.

There is a lot of stuff considered. Avoid getting any more Bs. Make sure you work hard to kill the ACT/SAT to make up for your below average freshman year, and average sophomore/junior years. Try to have maybe 2 good subject scores and a few great (4/5) AP exam scores so you can show that you can perform at the highest level academically.

I got a 4 on my APUSH Exam (my first AP Exam). I was the only A in my AP Chemistry class this semester, and my teachers average on the AP Exam a 3.8 with a C average in the class. So, I’m hoping that means a 4 or 5 is very realistic for that exam for me. For AP Gov I should get a 4 or 5 considering my performance in the class & my APUSH exam, and same for AP Lang. I don’t know if I should take AP Psych though. What do you reccomend?
