How Helpful will it be to apply for 0 financial aid...

My family finance wise can afford to go 0 financial aid for costs that reach 50k US a year, through assets owned by my relatives and such.
How helpful would this be to get me into Ivies, Stanford, and other selctive schools. (I'm an international BTW)

for an international it will help u a lot i heard

yep; FA's really hurt internationals.

but if its need blind, just apply for FA. there are rumors that even internationals admission chances are hurt if you apply for FAs in a need blind school but I find this ridiculous.

lately ive been getting an impression that the top top need blind r looking for low income applicant

no just that majority of high achievers in past have been frm low income background........

Also If u dont apply for fin aid ur chances increase drastically..BELIEVE MY WORDS.. a lower sat + a lower grade + a lower list of EC + Money to pay by urself + international === Acceptance at majority of top schools ..

top maybe, definitely not the zenith oines.

"top maybe, definitely not the zenith oines."
completely false. It's the opposite way around, actually.

i take that as part sarcasm and part to your username. :)

infact neither of them i wud say......... i wud say leaving the needblind ones ....ALL COLLEGES WILL GIVE AN EDGE TO AN APPLICANT WHO IS WILLING TO PAY AND IS EVEN MARGINALLY WITHIN THE SCHOOL PROFILE........ no matter whther he/she is less qualified than an excellent candidate who requires fin. aid......... These fin aid applicant are considered seperately in a seperate pool altogether.......

that was what i meant by zenith ones. :)

HYP are the only ivies which are need blind to international students . IF you are applying to any of the others your being able to pay your own way is definitely an advantage because they are not need blind to international students. Williams, MIT are also need blind, where as Stanford is not. Overall there are only a small hand full of colleges that are need blind to international students so in a nut shell at many schools your ability to pay as an iternational student is a tip factor.

well let's see how it'll tip me at Uchicago. :)

aren't all ivies needblind?

It will help them choose you over another equally qualified international candidate if they want you both, but it won't help you get in in the broader sense. Top schools could be full of full payers if they wanted to be, they probably could fill a class at HYPS ten times with qualified full payers.

which is why we empahsised that at HYPS, the ability to pay full becomes a non-consideration.

Well I do have decent but not outstanding stats... top 10% of my class... 2210 SAT... a bunch of extracurriculars involving research, volunteering, etc. Is that competent enough for me to get into schools like Stanford who don't offer a needblind policy to international students?

Maybe if you are from a Country they don't get many applicants from, but no if you're Asian or Western European.

"that was what i meant by zenith ones"

I'm sorry! I totally read that wrong.
I should have read your previous post to that:

"lately ive been getting an impression that the top top need blind r looking for low income applicant"

Yes. This statement is 100% true.

coz they know the rigor and struggle that a low income student does in order to get into any zenith schools

which in this case gives a slight tip to low-income since the ivies started announcing financial packages to encourage students who'd never dreamt they'll end up at HYPSM
