I took the ACT twice already. I took it on April 26th, and got a 25. To prepare for the test in April, I took the Kaplan ACT Course, but during the class, the material was very easy for me. Whenever I took their practice test, I would always get a 25. (So, I can understand why I got a 25 on the real test.) Because I'm not happy about that score, I studied a little for the test on June 10th, and I'm still waiting for my scores. For some reason, I can't see my scores online so I'm waiting.

Now, regardless of my self-esteem, I know I didn't score a 30 or above, which is my goal. I'm planning on taking the test in Sep. and/or Oct. just in time for college applications.

I have two months to study and ace the ACT. I want to get a 30 and/or above. If I could get a 33, I would be perfectly fine with that. I have the Real Act book and The Ultimate ACT Tool Kit by Thomson Peterson's.

Is there any possible way for me to jump from a 25 to 33? Or near 33? Be realistic. Can a person really go up 8 points? What is the range I can expect to raise my scores to? And with how much preparation? Thanks for your help.

If it makes you feel in better, I am in the same situation: 25 ACT. I would like some advice as well. It seems like if I study hard for one thing, something else that I did not study as hard for goes down. Blah. My English score can't seem to get past a 28; I need at least a 31!!

I got Peterson's toolkit in the mail yesterday, i started it. The reviews for it on amazon are all 1 star though, what do you think about it?

Is this the first time your using prep books for the ACT? I havce heard good this about Kaplan and PR, if you already used those try the Preparing the the ACT math\science and english\reading books by postman.

On practice, I was getting 30's. On the real, I got a 22. I think my score was wrong, but it ws hand-scored, and they didn't change it (was expected). Im going to retake to try for a 30.

Inguyen- Good luck to you. I'm aiming for a 33. My dream college is MIT, and I know for a fact that I won't get accepted with a 25. Hopefully, we'll get the scores we're aiming for, and get accepted into our dream college.

qaz88- I haven't really touched the Ultimate Tool Kit yet. I took Kaplan ACT course to help me when I first took the ACT. To prepare for the second time I took the ACT, I used the Real Act. Due to limited amount of time, I couldn't finish the book. I'm planning on going through both of the books, and hopefully, it'll raise my score.

excel- Where did you see your scores? My mom and I are really anxious to know my score. I don't want to pay $8 to see it early. When are they sent in mail?

theoneo- You're very lucky. I don't freak out during tests, and I was very focused. Well...I have a hard time focusing in the Reading Section, but on other tests, I finish early and feel as if I did good like a 28 or something, but it's always near a 25. Plus, from the Kaplan ACT course and the Real ACT book, I learned the format and etc. of the test.

bmanbs2- How long did your validictorian prepare for the ACT? If you don't know, that's okay.

goodcolleges- Good luck to you. If you don't get a 25 the first time, you can always try again. :)

twinkletoes23- Did you prepare for the ACT in any way? It would be awesome if I can increase my score by 7 pts.

PatrickK- I'm really sorry about that. I would be heartbroken and crying if that happened to me. Good luck to you. I hope you get a score in the 30s just like your practice tests.

Whatever you do, don't waste your time on vocabulary for the ACT...I know Peterson's gives flashcards in the back of their ACT books, don't bother using them...also those who haven't taken a class should take one if they are the type of student who needs motivation/direction

Tangytart- Thanks! :) I'll keep that in mind. I read that practice tests help you, and if you need more guidance, then you can read the sections. But can that really help bring up eight pts?

Theoneo- I think the vocab is to help you in your reading or in English to choose the best word that applies to a sentence or something.

I would read the sections too, extra review can't hurt. I believe you could improve 8 pts potentially. There's no reason why you can't. When you have a score under 30, it's extremely easy to improve so go for it.

yeah i know what you mean i also got a 25 and want to reach around a 30+. I didnt study for it at all, and also the only area where i had problems was the english and math, the science was a 29 and reading was 28. so if I can raise those to 30+ and get the math and english to 30 flat I will be good.
