What can I do to improve:
G.P.A. 4.29uw
Rank: 2/535
still have to take SATs
APs: European Hist, Bio
APs currently taking: Spanish, English Lang, Chemistry, U.S. Hist
APs i will take: English Lit, Physics, Gov/Econ, Calculus AB, Calculus BC
ECs:(up till now)
Indian Club(2yrs)
Key Club(1 yr, in 2nd)
C.S.F-just joined this year
AMerican Red Cross(1 yr in 2nd)
Science Olympiad-just joined
volunteer for public library
tutor for elementary students
Nerd Herd-just joined

LOL You can first by learning math. 4.29 unweighted? >_o.

My counselor showed me my transcript and told me that that is my gpa unweighted. Our school uses a different system maybe.

So it would seem.

Basically continue doing well in your classes and being involved in your extracurricular activities. Try to secure leadership positions in your clubs for senior year.

Best of luck.

My gpa is 4.41 w

thanks ses!

Leadership positions AND good SAT scores. :] Take your SATs like, in December or January when like NO ONE takes them. You'll be able to get a better curve. <3 Hahaha. xD; And don't forget about your SAT IIs! Take them in May (because you'll be studying for APs at the same time. Much easier to do so)! :]

thanks sutoroberrii, i agree with you, i decided to take SATs in December/January, and SATIIs in Dec/May

anyone?i appreciate any help

were on the same boat! but I'm taking the SAT in Nov. so i can have lots of time b4 spring to retake it. are there any clubs not in your school that you would like to participate in? for ex., my school doesnt have a newspaper/magazine so me and a friend are starting one.

thanks Vicky_sky! Yeah, I'll try to think of clubs my school doesn't have. By the way, at my school newspaper is a class.

come on people 117 views and only 10 answers. I can use any help you give me!

Are those the absolute hardest courses your school offers? And what did you get on the tests?

You need leadership positions and awards. You can join 100 clubs but if you're not a leader, they don't matter. I might also warn you that unless you get a high (district/international) position in Key Club or do something big (head a project and save starving children), no one's going to care. Everyone does Key Club.

How long/often do you do this? Once a month? Once a week? A couple times a week? Consistency.

No idea what this is, but become Head Nerd.

Recap:
1. High SAT scores
2. Maintain high grades
3. Get leadership positions.
4. Get awards.
5. Find a passion if you haven't already.

"Rank: 2/535"
ever considered murder?

@yanarchy: Thank you for the input. Just to clarify-Nerd Herd is a club where we try to promote literacy in the community. I volunteer for the library and tutor one day for each in a week. Plus, to gain leadership positions at my school for clubs and stuff people vote so its unlikely I'll get voted for.

Ok, here's the problem, you don't have any major hooks. If you're applying to top schools, it's pretty guaranteed that everyone's going to be top of their class, AP/IB classes, and high SAT scores. Those you have (yay!).

So what do you do now? You have to convince colleges that you're better than everyone else with your similar stats. And you do that by excelling in activities.

Since you mentioned Indian Club, I'll assume you're of Indian descent. That makes it a smidget harder for you (don't be in denial, AA does not help you). You HAVE to show that you're accomplished in something and that means getting that leadership position, taking charge, and getting the recognition.

You need a "hook", something that will set you apart from everyone else. And right now, you have no hook.

Good grades and test scores can only get you so far.

So I say, instead of thinking that it's unlikely you won't get voted for a position, you should run for them. Do something. Stand out.

You're about to become a Junior...wait a year and then ask for chances again.

btw do you go to Mount Carmel?

Head Nerd, how clever.

@yanarchy:
Do leadership positions really matter? I've been in NHS, CSF, and Math Club for 3 years now but I haven't assumed any leadership positions. Is that a bad thing? I tried obtaining a leadership position my senior year but as I'm not that popular, some other person got it.

Haha. Yanarchy: :"Become head nerd." Well said. Like the others before me, you should get leadership positions but it doesn't have to be at school. Take the American Red Cross for example. Look on their website at the youth opportunities and join one of the clubs if you haven't already. Once in the club, approach the director of that club and ask if there are leadership positions available. If that doesn't work, then 'create' a youth board for that club. Go for president.

As for the SATs and Subject Tests, I am taking my SAT in either December or March and the SATs in May. Study as much as you can for the SAT if you think it's hard for you. Personally I am great at school but when it comes to standaridized tests, I suck. I'm really serious though. Study hard for it, even if you're in the bathroom. Seriously.

Now, during this year, preferably in the beginning of this year, research collegs that you may want to attend and majors that you might consider taking. Make this your goal that you will finish before 2008. Afterwards, you can start to visit the colleges during the spring when it's most convienent. (Not in the summer because there will be no students. DUH. )

That's what im doing. I'm visiting during the school year and the ones I really like I will visit again in the summer so I can see what the social life is like.

If you have anymore questions, go ahead and PM me. Most of all, keep up your grades and relax! Enjoy high school! Good Luck!

thanks yanarchy: but I did go for V.P of Science Olympiad but a senior got the position maybe next year I can go for it again. REd Cross has a pres.
@Castel: agree with you
@moviefreak126: thank you for the advice!
