How Important are College Extracurriculars in Landing a Job?

Hi all,
I'm a college freshman, and while I dabbled in some extracurricular activities during my first semester, I haven't really gotten hooked onto any of them as much as I had with my high school activities. I'm still shopping around for an activity that's really for me, but I want to know how important it is that I do ultimately find one or more. FYI, at the moment I am interested in a variety of careers (Consulting probably being the most competitive one) and am an International Relations major, considering pursuing a Dual with Literature.

Will it be a problem for me to apply for internships and eventually jobs if I haven't achieved very much on the extracurricular front, or will factors like GPA, work experience and past internships provide enough support? I guess what I'm really asking is whether or not employers care at all about extracurriculars.

Thanks!

Yeah you should definitely have at least one or two things you really get involved in besides class. Obviously it's not a huge deal that you didn't do much your first semester of college, but try to find something this semester.

I think the most important part of it is it'll be a good talking point during interviews and give you a bank of experiences to draw from when they ask you questions like, "Give an example of a time when your opinion was challenged, and how you responded to it." or "Describe how you perform as a leader of a group."
