How important are SAT II's exactly?

Really.
How important are they?
I have a good GPA, a decent SAT score [an 1800 roughly] and yet my SAT II's were in the 500s [I got a 580 on one and I did a little more poorly on the other].
It's too late to sign up to retake them [for the colleges I'm applying to anyway].
Do you think a UC is out of the question for me? Should I just apply to schools that do not require SAT IIs?
I feel like such a dolt.

if you do some googling, the UC system values the SATIIs as a better indicator of future college success.

iirc they weight the satIIs as compared to the SAT1. i think they look for a total of 1850 from 3 satIIs.

for liberal arts colleges, not much. some even don't ask for them if you submit sat 1.

Depends on the schools. Ivies want them. Others "suggest" them or say they're "optional," most don't even mention them or only use them for placement. Check the websites of the colleges you're interested in.

I think that the majorities of college's use them heavily in admissions especially the top schools. I think in a way SAT II's can stop grade inflation because lets say if one student has a 92 in world history and the other student has like a 99. And the first student gets a 790 and the student with the 99 gets a 680, then the adcoms will likely see that it was grade inflation or that the student with the 790 took a harder course.

I've never thought of it like that, but it makes sense.

Does anyone know how retaking a SAT II test in december will affect what a college thinks of your application? Like if I think that I bombed the math IIC test today, and I want to retake for a possibly better score in december.
