How IMPORTANT are SAT scores???

Hey, i was just wondering if SATS can make or break your admissions. I have an 1870 on my SATS (i kno its really low) but I have over 3000 hours of community service and I have a 4.53 cumulative GPA and for senior year i have a 5.0 GPA so how much will a low SAT score hurt me? or anyone?

your low SATs basically prove that your school is seriously grade deflated...and that's not gonna look good at all...just being honest

do you mean inflated? if so, i don't think that that is necessarily true. some people just don't test well. but yea, SATs are still impt tho and an 1870 doesn't look too good. i believe it's in the lower 25% for SATs at Cornell. that doesn't disqualify you, but it makes it harder.

my counselor said that my Extra curriculars and grades make up for my "average" SAT score. but then again, my counselor is like the one from the movie "Orange County", literally lol

but my math and writing are decent but i have always been bad at critical reading, i got 680 (M) 640 (W) and 550 (CR)

haha. well he/she has a point about that, i agree with them. especially if your ECs are really good, in addition to your grades, you should have an ok chance. but, if you are deferred...i would definitely take the SAT again, like register for Dec. or Jan. now just in case.

thanks, i didnt even think about that but thats a good idea

Which college were you planning on applying to?

umm i posted it under "Do I need safety schools"
sorrr, i just dont feel like typing it again lol, im applying to so many

I think she meant "which college in Cornell were you planning on applying for?"

o, lol, i knew that :) umm Im applying to CAS for a math major

by the way...in reference to my above post...i might be attacked for this, but i can personally assure you that the january SAT is like 70-90 points easier than ALL of the rest. so just in case...

I'm a guy btw, goldtx. ;)

hahahaha (10 characters)

are you serious? the January one is easier? SCORE!! lol

haha yea!!!

i just realized ur situation is worse...ur writing is high..but too bad cornell doesnt look at that your M+W is 1230......which is...uh...

lol, i know my 1230 is really low, its stupid critical reading bc my math is in cornell range

Cornell: Fairly Big Reach

I think some admissions officers might raise eyebrows at someone who got only A's in AP English Language but a 550 Verbal. So yes, SAT's can really bite.

You should try to retake in December or January to raise your score. If you do, your community service + high GPA + new SAT scores might just get you in. Good luck!

trace your ancestry back 1000 years and pray for a native american connection

^^^

which might not be THAT hard...if your family has lived in this country for a long time (300+ years) it's not tooooo difficult to find it. and this is legitimate. i had a friend who did this, and she's definitely not a member of a Native American tribe.

i looked for myself, but nothing :( obviously it didn't matter though haha.

btw, do you own a Citation X, Citation X? lol
