Well, I’ve taken the SAT twice, and am finally satisfied with my score (2210), but now i have to worry about SATIIs.
How important are they?
How heavily are they weighed in admissions?
What is considered a ‘good’ SATII score for the top LACs or ivies? 650+? 700+? 750+?
What should I be aiming for?
Are there any SATIIs that don’t look as good to adcoms as others?
Are there any that are considered harder than others?
Thanks in advance for any help.

They're important if the school you're applying to requires them, or if you need to make up for slightly lower SAT schools, lack of ECs, etc. I'm not sure if schools that don't require them look at the scores in the first place, though. I think anything above a 600 is good, but for top LACs and Ivies you should probably aim for a 700+.

I'm pretty much only looking at schools that do require them. Not that that is my criteria only that that is how it is.

If your score begins with a 7 or 8, then it is good :)

thanks, anyone else?

For some schools, I've heard that they hold a very important role.
Large schools (i.e. state schools) or schools that receive many apps (highly competitive schools such as the ivies) weigh the SAT II scores more than the small LACs because they just receive too many apps from different schools, and need an standard indicator of a student's performance in certain courses.
Also, because the UCs have a strict formula for calculating an applicant's chance of admission, I would assume that SAT IIs are very important for them.

Schools that don't require them will still consider them in admissions, but it does depend on the college. They are pretty important at the extremely selective schools, but everything is important at those schools. The most important thing is the difficulty of curriculum, then gpa/rank, and then standardized test scores. SAT I is very important. SAT II's are not even looked at by some state schools, but are important at extremely selective schools. They will look at the top three. For engineering majors, SAT II MATH IC/IIC is very important. AP scores have marginal importance.

After you qualify on academic grounds, they look at EC's, essays, and recs. You need a "hook". They want "passion" in one or two EC's. You should probably do an essay on your "passion" and then have the EC's back it up. They will take a high academic record with high SAT scores and a strong "hook" before they will take an extremely high academic record with perfect SAT's and no "hook". (Of course, there is no way to predict what will actually happen.)

The average score on any of the SAT II's depends on the test, but the normal average is normally around 600. Anything in the 600's show solid work. From the low 700's to mid 700's, that's good. From the mid 700's to high 700's, that's impressive. Remember when you look at your SAT II scores, that you were not competing against the general population. Someone with a 630 on SAT II Chemistry did average for a person who thinks that chem is one of his/her best subjects and probably plans on majoring in chemistry.

For UC's, SAT IIs are now equivalent to SAT I, in the amount of weight given to each.
According to this site, SAT IIs were weighed just as heavily as SAT I's, according to the "academic index calculator."

ashernm: does that 'rubric' apply to all UC's including UCB?

Just check the UC website.

Many schools will let you submit only the ACT, instead of SAT I + 3 SAT IIs. But, for schools that require SAT IIs, they are at least as important as SAT I.
For top unis & LACs, 700+. Otherwise 600+ is fine.
