I'm a first generation Filipino girl. I have a good GPA, solid essays, good recommendations, and good transcript. My SAT score, however, falls short of what I expected. How does this affect my chance of getting into top schools? Am I considered a URM?

Depends on where you’re applying. Generally, I would say the large schools care (particularly state schools) because they have a huge clump of students to weed through. I suppose the Ivies, too, since everyone is going to have pretty much the same great ECs, same great grades, same great recs, etc.

But the liberal arts schools tend to get fewer students applying, so they’re more likely to have the time to look at your transcript holistically. In my experience, liberal arts schools like to downplay the importance of SATs, and some schools, like Wake Forest, state right out they honestly do not care what your scores are.

I’m also a questbridge finalist to which most top schools are partners of. does that change anything?
