If you send your transcript to colleges November, than what's the point in getting really good grades senior year? I understand that you can't fail and whatnot but what about getting some Bs instead of the usual straight As, what difference does it make? Even if you get straight As senior year in a bunch of AP classes, would that make any difference as to whether you get accept to say, an Ivy League or not?

Please help! I was gonna take 6 AP classes senior year, but my teacher was saying senior grades are not that important and that we don't have to take so many hard classes and I don't know what to do!!!

Oh also, I got 1 B freshman year, the rest As. And so far I've taken 1 AP class soph year and 3 junior year with straight As in all of em. It's not that much compared to some other people, and I was hoping that a lot of APs senior year can even it out, but I really don't want to do that many if it won't help in admissions.

Colleges aren’t going to accept or reject you based on your classes and grades senior year.

… For midyear grades, try to get mostly A’s

For end of the year grades (after decisions) B’s and C’s will be fine

Even though the Fresh-Junior year transcript is sent by the application submission date (usually Jan 1st or so), they also look at the midyear report sent in February. While they’re looked at, they do not carry nearly as much weight as previous years’ grades and are mostly used as a check to make sure you’re not slacking off too much.

I actually sent in a pretty bad midyear report. While my previous years’ grades had been all As (with an exception of one B+), my midyear report contained 3 B+s and a B- so only 1 A in a core class. This was a clear step down from my previous years and I was really really worried about it. However, I still managed to get into Dartmouth and Duke. If I got those senior grades any other year, I would surely be out. It may have influenced my other decisions, but i’m satisfied. But don’t be comfortable with sending in a bad midyear report, I would still try to keep it up for the most part until the second semester. Then you can really slack off.
