How important are senior year first quarter grades for early decision duke?

I know Duke requires first quarter grade reports for seniors applying early decision. I currently have a 3.9 unweighted gpa. I started off senior year a bit rough and now I ended up with a B in one of my classes with only two weeks left in the first quarter at my school. It’s very unlikely for me to raise it up to an A. I was just wondering, how important are first quarter grades to duke for early decision and would a B affect me in the admissions process?

@SGates a B or B+? And in what class

@sanjanagupta1 Hi, a B+ but on the transcript it will just show as a B. Its in Physics 1 AP. I’m going to apply for biology major but I dont’t know if they still look at it.

They usually have already evaluated the application to some extent by the time they received first quarter grades, so my understanding is that it usually serves as something to reinforce the application (or not). It’s usually not a core component of the evaluation. I don’t think a single B will sink you, but if you went from all As to all Bs, that would absolutely raise eyebrows. Nothing you can do about it anyways, so just hope for the best. Good luck!
