How important are subject tests?

OK, Carnegie Mellon requires 2 subject tests. I just don't see myself scoring high on the US History one. I can get a high score on Math IIC. I'm applying to either Tepper or CIT. Will a low score in US History hurt me?

By the way, I'm retaking these subject tests. Previously I had some horrible scores:

600 Math IIC, 590 US History

The problem is that CollegeBoard sends ALL your scores to colleges. I think I can score in the 700's for Math IIC. But then they also send the low US History test score from that session. For the other colleges I apply to, I only want to send a high Math IIC score. So what should I do?

THe only thing you can do is retake your Math and do better, once scores or sent, it's on file. If you feel like you didn't do so well coming out of the test you should write to College Board to cancel your scores.

lmfao cit as in caltech? get outta here

No CIT as in Carnegie Institute of Technology...

For Caltech, you need Maths II and a science score so it's not gonna work anyways..............

Ugh, I can't edit my original post. CIT as in Carnegie Institute of Technology, NOT Caltech. Does Carnegie mind one low subject test score?

I think Carnegie requires three subject tests. Not sure , just check it on their website.....................

Nope, all schools in Carnegie require 2. How bad will one bad subject test from a test session look? Can I cancel previous scores?

Did you get your results yesterday..........it looks like everybody screwed up their Maths II.................I think they'll consider 1 bad score..

Nope, I was taking random subject tests (2 of which I didn't study for) on my first test session because I had no idea CollegeBoard saved them all. This was a while ago (October I believe).

I was pretty sure I did well on Math IIC though. I have no idea how I scored a 600. I studied for the test and pretty much knew everything on it. I should have AT LEAST scored a 700. I don't think the pencil I was using filled in the bubbles dark enough though. I don't want to spend $50 on hand-scoring, so I figured I might as well retake Math IIC. How fast will I get the results back if I take the hand-scoring route though?

You are taking the subject tests this weekend I assume? You should go through all the colleges you are looking at and make sure you are fulfilling the subject test requirements.
CIT at CMU requires a Math subject test and either Physics or Chemistry. History won't work even if it is a high score.
Tepper requires Math and any second test but preferably a science.

You only have a week after you take the test, or maybe even less i can't remember to cancel an SAT score. Once the score has been made available to you it's WAAYY too late, it's already on file at the schools you requested the scores to be sent to.

I didn't request it to be sent to any schools. I just heard CollegeBoard sends all your scores (including scores from previous sessions), so I want to cancel them or at least get them hand-scored (depending on how long it takes to hand score).
