how important is counselor's rec?

I have one teacher' rec and an extra rec from the headmistress. I think they both will be good. I am good with my teachers. However, my counselor and I despise each other so I dont think she will write a good rec for me. How much would this hurt? Will having other good recs from other people make up for the counselor's bad rec?

In most schools your headmistress rec will count as your counselor rec. BUT the university will need other forms filled out by your counselor and may call your counselor directly if they have any follow-up questions. Does your headmistress know about the problems with the counselor, and can they do anything to help assure accurate communications?

^ really? then can I only send the headmistress’ rec and not counselor’s?
How can I do that? There is counselor form attached to common app and other school online applications. I just get her to fill that out then attach headmistress’ letter to the counselor form?
Thank you so much!!!

b u m p please I really need some help.
My counselor hates me.

Umm bad counselor recs hurt. The whole point of their rec is to put your high school accomplishments in context. If she puts things like your are a bad student or took an easy courseload, that would prbly destroy your chances if you are applying to HYPS…or any top 20 school for that matter.

Just have a meeting with your headmistress and explain your concern. It’s not as uncommon as you think, and I bet your headmistress will have some ideas.

Most colleges want a administrator who knows you well to make your recommendation. If your headmistress knows you better than your counselor than your headmistress recommendation should be fine.
