Im kinda freaking out about the upcoming decisions and is really hoping my course load will get me in? But how important is this actually to UF? I've heard from its not important up to its extremely important and don't know what to believe. Lol. I have 9 Ap's rest honors/3.6 uw/ 4.0 uf gpa /1870 sat/top 25% of very good public school/very very very involved/ minority( if this does anything lol). Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

Of course its important, very important. If you have a 4.0 with ap’s, ib , aice or honors and someone else has a 4.0 with regular courses…all else being equal who do you think they will pick. no brainer…

its very important. the specific classes don’t matter particularly, but the number of academic courses you take has a pretty strong relationship with your odds of getting in.

I have 27 academic courses by the time I graduate. That included the algebra 1 course I got credited for from middle school as I was allowed to take algebra 2 honors in high school. Of those courses, 9 are AP, 7 are AICE and 7 are honors. I hope that shows that I
had a strong schedule worthy of UF.

Academic rigor and the level and number of “core” classes in math, science english, history, social science and foreign language are a key metric used by UF in making admission decisions. The lack of a significant number of AP, IB or dual enrollment courses will significantly effect admission.

What is significant is 16 AP/AICE by graduation significant?

Danielle - obviously not all high schools offer the same curriculum, therefore, you may have one student who only took 5 AP classes vs another student who took 12 - each student taking the max AP classes available at their high school. Both students took “significant” AP classes based on the their curriculum. One would hope UF would take this into account when making their final decision.

Do you think UF takes into account the fact that you can’t register for an AP class in a private school unless you are approved for the class? In public school the same limitations do not exist.

UF places it within the context of what your particular school offers whether that be public, magnet or private. Have you taken a rigorous course load within the limits of your school’s course offerings is the question they will ask?. For example if your school offers 16 different AP classes and you have taken 1 or 2 you will have a problem when the UF admissions staff reviews your stats. Remember each school’s GC is required to send an information sheet to the university explaning grading scale, grade weighting and courses available. If you have taken 7-8 over four years that may be a problem, more than 10 you should be fine. Remember UF recalculates the GPA using the weighted formula for only “core classes”. That is math, science, foreign language, english, history and social sciences. Band, choir debate, etc do not count. For honors, add .5 to the grade, C or above, AP , Dual Enrollment and IB add 1.00 to any grade C or above

Which do you think is more important to uf? Curriculum, sats, or class rank…

During visit and as per admissions officer at UF; curriculum–with emphasis on “strength of schedue”, test scores-ACT or SAT–they dont care how many times you took them but only superscore SAT not ACT, and a distant 3rd, class rank–she may have even told us they quit using class rank or discount since some counties/school districts in FL don’t rank. The UF student who led the tour told us she took her SAT 6 times. Good luck tomorrow!

The first thing they look at is academic rigor within the context of what was offered in your school. Next grades and how did you do in core classes such as math, science, english foreign language, history and social science. They will then examine SAT/ACT scores. For those on the margins, essay, EC’s and awards can tip the balance. What you also must remember is that from the 11,000 to be admitted there are athletic scholarship students
(probably 500-600 overall recruited sports) Talented Twenty Program admits (no one knows the exact number but probably in the 250-350 range) so that close to 1000 spots are utilzed. Then UF overlays its geographical criteria and admits students applying from each county in Florida. There are cap numbers for each county but obviously they are a closely guarded secret within the admissions office. It is a complicated process with various levels of review and refinement and an effort to do it using equitable criteria while maintaining high academic standards. It is largely stats driven but not entirely. For OOS students the level of competition is fierce because there are so few OOS freshman slots.

Hey everyone. My first post. Also want to get into UF. I am a junior (straight A student) and taking 3 AP classes (English Lit, World History, Biology). Was thinking about adding AP Psych but worried it might overwhelm me and hurt my GPA (also taking pre-calc honors and physics honors). Since AP Psych is an elective…not a core subject…will UF factor it in my GPA? What is the benefit of taking an AP elective? Thanks. Don’t know if 4 APs will tip the scale…also will be prepping for ACT/SAT.
