What does UF consider an academic course?

Hey, I was just looking at the new 2010 Freshman Profile and it says that high school students that applied and had 31+ "academic courses" got in at a percent of 87.1 (210/241)

So what does UF consider an academic course? And do they count the courses you will take your senior year if you apply in the summer before senior year?

Because I'm going to take 8 dual enrollment classes. But 6 of them are in my senior year (3 in fall and 3 in spring) So would UF see these classes o_O?

Thanks!

Academic courses are usually courses that are math, science, social science, history, english and foreign languages (regular, honors, ap, ib, even aice). physical education, life management, business technology, arts, teachers aid, these are usually electives and does not count as academic electives.

Of course you can call UF to make sure.

Okay thanks!

Anyone else have input?

Math
Science
History/Social Studies
English
Foreign Language

And it’s fine to have them in senior year.

Alright thanks. How come only 216 applicants had 31 or more courses? I almost have that much lol. Does Dual Enrollment count?

does journalism and SAT prep classes count as academic courses?

This is what counts, as explained by an admissions officer in the info session.

@Auburn: No, those would not count as academic classes.

I’m pretty sure DE counts as long as they’re academic courses. A DE class in pottery wouldn’t count. ;)

The middle acceptance of the freshman class has 21-25 academic courses.

Thanks SeekingUni. Do you know if economics and government count as 2 separate academic courses or only 1 because they are each only 1 semester? If they are 2 spearate, I’ll be at 22 academic courses, but otherwise I’ll only have 21.

I’m actually not sure how that would work, to be honest.

Maybe I’ll give the office of admissions a call to clarify, I’ll respond when I find out.

Does anyone know if they count T-O-K (Theory of Knowledge) as an academic class?

probably. it would be a ‘humanities’ (at a high school leve), if its what i think it is.

also, i want to mention, though its been a while so i might be misremembering: if a class is honors, it counts as academic regardless. for instance, i took some engineering classes that didn’t necessarily qualify for any core subjects, but they were considered.

one of my journalism classes was an honors credit because it was my third year of taking the course, would this count as an academic course then?
