How Important is ELC?

Well, apparently, I got a letter in May and I never released my records to the school to send over to the UC system for the ELC program. I was in the top 4%, but I guess I won't get the benefits of ELC while applying to the UC system. Should I be worried?

nope -- it's only a small tip factor for the big two. If your gpa is high enough for elc, then you can consider Irvine, Davis, & SB as safeties. Cal and UCLA will also see the great transcript, but you'll need decent test scores and excellent essays for admission, regardless of elc status.

Good luck.

Well, I'm ELC eligible. I guess I just didn't release my records. But for some campuses, don't they give your points for being ELC? I think it's stupid that I'm top 4%, yet I won't be recognized as it. Ugh.

yes they do... UC Davis gives a whopping 1000 points for being ELC.

again, it doesn't matter that much. The schools will see the 3.xx gpa, which usually means auto accept.

Thats A Lie Davis Doenst Give 1000 Extra Ponts.

Davis gives 1000: http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/admissions/fr_selection_process.cfm
UCSD gives 300.

Still, when you consider that a 4.5 capped GPA = 4500, 300 is like adding 0.3 to your GPA. Davis's 1000 pt. boost is like a whole +1 to your GPA, or a 1000 points added to your SAT total.

Do other colleges use this "points" system (and have their scale online)? I couldn't find anything UCSD's website. What exactly do these points REALLY mean (A scale to see if you'll get in or not? Where does it say what score range usually gets accepted?)?

No, Davis, Irvine, Riverside, Santa Cruz, and Merced actually guarantees admission to ELC applicants. I got letters from all of them, too bad I'm applying to Cal,UCLA and San Diago

Are you sure they GUARANTEE it, for ALL majors (Including majors like Electrical/Computer Engineering and what not?)?

i think davis, merced, and maybe santa cruz guaranteed it for all majors, others no.
did you get those congratulation letters from each UCs except the top 3?

Yeah, I got those letters from the lower UC schools (Davis, Irvine, Merced, etc.), but nothing from the top UC's.

What if I lost the letter?

Go the website where they list the ELC contact #'s. They'll probably ask for identifying info, such as Social & Birthdate

o what! how did u get guaranteed admission into UCD? i got the ELC thing also..but so far ive only recieved guaranteed admission to UCI, UCSB, and UC Merced
