My school didn’t offer Spanish until my sophomore year, and they only have Spanish I and Spanish II classes. Now I’m a senior taking Spanish III online, but I’m finding it extremely difficult to keep up with. If I can drop it now, without any permanent grade on my transcript, will it greatly decrease my chances of admission? I know that three years of foreign language is suggested, but my school doesn’t even really offer it.
Hi there! Sorry no one has replied to your comment!
I’m a current first-year at Oxy so here’s my knowledge based on being at Oxy and going through the college application/admissions process.
When you apply to colleges (not just Oxy), they look at what classes you’re school offers and compares them with the classes you are taking to see if you are really challenging yourself in terms of academics. The fact that you took all of the languages they offer at your school will reflect well on your application. Also, if you’re strong suit isn’t necessarily in languages, make sure that shows in the classes you are taking. For example, if you’re really interested in majoring in math at Oxy, make sure you’re taking high level math classes and challenging yourself in that field (in addition to taking other classes so you have a diverse/all-encompassing application, not just math specific).
Hope that answered your question!
