How important is it to submit the SAT subject tests?

My son is struggling a bit with the SAT subject tests. I think he has a 700 in World Hx, 720 in math2 and 680 in US Hx. He has a chance to take new tests or retake math in the fall.

His ACT composite is 34.

If he applies SCEA to Stanford, should he submit those scores or just leave them out.

Your advice is appreciated.

Well… Stanford says that the Subject tests are recommended but not required. If you live in a country where the SAT Subject tests are available I don’t think it’ll look too good if he doesn’t submit them. They say it won’t put you at a disadvantage but, in reality, it just might, particularly if he’s applying SCEA when the application pool is even stronger. I would suggest retaking the subject tests and maybe applying RD.

My SATII’s were 780 Math2, 770 World, 660 Physics. I also had a 34 composite and I decided not to send my SAT’s to Stanford and Yale. I was accepted to Stanford and Yale and rejected from Harvard and Princeton. Maybe it had something to do with the SAT/SATII’s, maybe not. Who knows.

If he didn’t retake those SAT II scores, I don’t think it would hurt him much–what he has is already very good.

Thanks, all, for this info. I am glad to hear of someone who actually applied without those SAT IIs.

Ilpitch, did you apply SCEA to either Stanford or Yale?

No I RD’ed to both.
