So
I know school counselors (at least at my school) are the ones who write at least one recommendation and sort of set up everything and help you out college-wise, but I've never even really met mine....Will this hurt my chances?

It would be very beneficial to be in good terms with your guidance / grade counselor. As for college counselors it’s helpful but not required. That is also what College Confidential is for!

It definitely helps to know your school counselor. I have known my school counselor since 6th grade (he was the MATHCOUNTS coach at our school, even at national level). It was a tremendous help with the recommendation letters.

Still, even if you do not know your counselor that well, that’s okay. See the following website:

and find the recommendation letter for “Mike.”
