How important is leadership when applying to a college?

Hello,
I mentioned 8 extracurricular activities on my application, but only have 3 leadership positions (treasurer of one club, secretary for another, and debate captain).

Will a college look down on me that I have a lack of leadership? Thanks for any help.

bump… anyone out there? ;D

wow!

10 minutes and you need to bump your post because you haven’t been flooded with replies.

for the vast vast majority of colleges, it means zero. For the few that it matters – well, I’ll let you research that.

Yeah I was thinking about applying to UPenn ED… I guess I’m a bit too weak for it?

bump… anyone else have any views on the importance of leadership in general?

Two bumps in a thread that started less than 2 hours ago! This must be SOOO important.

Snarkiness aside, I think that your leadership is fine, more than I have. Leadership is only semi-important. Rigor, GPA, even the SAT/ACT are more important. Essays and recs, for some schools, are more important… It really depends, but you don’t need to be the head research assistant at a cancer hospital, or have created the largest club at your school, etc. Some will say you have to do that for HYP, but I know a few people who got in with just normal EC’s (passionate, long standing, etc. but “normal” nonetheless).
