How important is retaking the SAT for a prospective Junior transfer to a competitive school?

Just finished my first year of college. I’m unsure whether I should retake/prep for the SAT or not. I would study over the summer and take it in the fall. My best HS SAT score was a 1950. I will be applying to the following schools: Columbia, Cornell, Brown, Caltech, UT-Austin, Harvard, Stanford, Penn for Computer Science. I am currently at a Top 30 public university. My GPA should be around a 3.8. (grade report for 2nd semester hasn’t came out yet)

If I were to retake the new SAT and get a high score on it, would it help my admission marginally or so minimally that it isn’t worth studying for?

Thanks in advance,

You need to find out if they will accept SATs taken after starting college. Many places don’t.

Your college GPA will matter much more.

They do. I’m not asking what is worth more, GPA or the SAT. I’m asking if it will help my application or not. Maybe somebody who has been in a similar situation with me might have some useful input.

I was a high school dropout and never took my SAT but got accepted as a Neurobiology major as a CC transfer student. Once you’ve already taken college courses, especially if you’re a junior level transfer, adcoms only really look at your college coursework so I wouldn’t retake anything. Just focus on maintaining a high GPA.
