Hey guys,
I’m currently a sophomore in college and I’m planning to apply to schools like MIT, Cornell and UChicago as a junior transfer to complete a BS in Chemistry. I was wondering if I should retake the SAT/ACT for this application process. I got 1810 for my SAT when I took it in high school due to certain circumstances. I currently have a 3.93 GPA in college. Do you think it’s necessary? I’d really appreciate any advice/opinions.
Yes, 1810 is much too low for those schools. While the SAT/ACT is not weighted heavily when transferring, it is considered, and you are competing with other students who have the same plan as you do. You need scores that are in the 75th percentile of the school’s acceptance. MIT (2170), Cornell (2120), UChicago (2200). Consequently for the new SAT you would need a score of at least 1450 to be considered competitive.
You need to ask those schools if they will consider an SAT taken as a college student since the SAT was designed for HS students. Some colleges will but others won’t.
