How important is senior grades ?

How important is it for college applications ?

I have been doing well all my high school career but a bit struggling with school this year. I am having A- in AP Bio, A in Spanish IIe, A- in History of China and Japan, B-/C+ in AP Physics C: E&M, probably C+ in AP English Literature ( I am an international student). Will the 2 C+ kill my college application ?

Any opinion ?

I am curious too my senior grades so far are
AP lit:B
AP Gov:A
Spanish 3: B+
Pre-cal/trig:C
DE Bio 2:A
DE Astronomy:A

It is extremely unlikely I’ll get that pre-cal/trig up. -sigh- I hate math.

colleges may ask for your mid-year report just to see how you’re doing…but from what i’ve heard you’ve got to mess up really bad for them to rescind an offer of acceptance.

Corey91: i agree completely, pre-calc/trig is really difficult… i am really good at math and i had straight A’s and a D-… it is the worst math i have ever taken… even studying doesn’t work… plus the teacher tries to teach us a chapter every week so its really stressful… Anyways sorry this is way off topic for this thread… lol :)

Well, it depends. Your grades as they stand won’t necessarily affect your admission unless your transcript with your request for admission is sent out with said grades. However, when your mid-year grades are sent out to colleges, (a) failing grade(s) or, in the case of some colleges, grades lower than a B or C may result in your admission being rescinded…

My senior year grades are so fail right now. I needED to show better grades to at mid year, too >.>

Oh well. =)

I think this is what I have:
Phys. Ed: A
IB Theory of Knowledge: B
IB French: A
IB History of the Americas: B+
AP Statistics: A-
IB Mathematics: A- (as of right now but some ****** just messed up our group project which could bump it down to a B :()
IB World Literature: B+
IB Physics: B

ahhh I hope this isn’t considered that bad for UChicago, UPenn, Cornell, etc. :(

How about in my case for schools like ConnColl, Lafayette, Depauw, Brandeis, Union, and Quinnipiac ?

Senior grades are very important. Screw up and there may be no second chance.

really ? so it means I am done ? It is not that I am lacking or anything but just because those classes are tough

OMG
AP LIt: -A
AP calculus A: -C
AP Art Hist; B?
All other classes are A+ (non AP)
:(

I understand this is a high school forum. I am a parent here, just to give you a bit of past experience for my older daughter when she was a senior.

She thought she was going to get into her ED, she was deferred, so she needed her first semester grades for RD. Then she was waitlisted at her two top choices. It was good she kept up her spring semester grades. Her GC sent over her interim grades (which were excellent, best ever) to those waitlisted schools. I think she was able to get off because of those grades. If she didn’t get off the waitlist, she was going to need her senior grades for transfer later.

You never know how your college process going to turn out. I would keep up your senior grades until you know for sure you are accepted to a school. You will also need to make sure your grades do not drop too much or school may rescind your acceptance. Every college wants to see your final transcript.

Yes senior year grades are important as all universities ask for your final transcript. Marking period grades are not really a factor at all ( but will put weight on how your semester grade can equal), semester grades usually determine GPA and is placed on most students transcripts. I would suggest to do well all marking periods though, the class you’ve earn a C in your probably not likely to get an A for the semester.

Yeah, I am just dreaming for a B in AP Literature since I am an international student.

I think you have to mess up really badly for your acceptance to be turned around. The only thing they realy matter for if you don’t do absolutely horifficly is for scholarships at some places.

For the most part you need to maintain a 3.0

I mean I am now applying so I need to get in. I don’t mean to get slack off or anything. I am just worried about my grades and my chance of getting into colleges.

Okay, I didn’t want to be the ***** to point this out, but it really bugs me… the title should be How important ARE senior grades? yeah… just had to get that out there… lol

That annoyed me a little, too. I’m just never Grammar Nazi the internet because when I talk online my grammar fails! =)
