How important is the physics SAT test?

I have 4.0/4.0 GPA, but my SAT scores are all in the mid-600's, and I doubt I can do good in the physics subject test. How important is it for engineering majors to take the subject test? I know it's recommended everywhere, but is it really required?

“I know it’s recommended everywhere, but is it really required?”

Obviously, this varies from school to school. You’ll have to inquire or check their sites.

There are definately places that accept applicants into their engineering schools even if the applicant does not submit a Physics Subject Test score. It does, however, help to send a decent score.

it entirely depends on the school.

What colleges are you considering because (a) large numbers of engineering schools neither require nor even use SAT IIs for admission (if you heard physics is recommended everywhere for engineering, it is complete bunk), (b) those that require SAT IIs often require or recommend for engineering that the tests be a math and a science but physics does not have to be that science, it can be chemistry at some or even biology at others, (c) there are only one or two that actually require a physics.
