How Is AP Psychology

How's the work load, what was your experience? What was your grade?

Work load: depends on teacher/school
Experience: Easy class , minimal stress except some cramming at lunch on occasion
Grade: A and A for both semesters

AP psych is half common sense and half basic memory. I guess it takes some thinking when attributing the vocab to scenarios but thats about it

Best class I ever took in high school, extremely interesting, influenced my potential major.

Lots of reading, but it’s not dry like APUSH.

Took as a sophomore: A (100%) in the class, 5 on the exam

Haven’t taken AP Psychology, but at my school, its one of those classes that kids who have never taken an AP decide to take, because the material is easy and so is the workload. I heard its a joke and a half, comparable to AP Environmental.

In my class we received a lot of work - more than for any other class I’ve taken - and the tests, though on a curve, were extremely difficult. That being said, all of the work was really interesting and I thought the AP test was really easy. I got an A both semesters, but I was one of only a couple people to do so, and I had to put in a ton of effort to get it. Obviously, every teacher is different. My teacher taught us for the test and way beyond, and she really succeeded in influencing how I see the world. So even if the class at your school ends up being very challenging, it will enrich your life. I’m so glad I took it.

The AP test is really just a big vocabulary test - and you can probably accurately guess what the terms mean if you have decent common sense. At my school, AP Psych has a ridiculously light workload that’s outright laughable. I think the art classes at my school have a heavier workload than AP Psych does.

For the AP exam, I just skimmed through the Princeton Review and a vocabulary list my teacher printed supplied us and I’m pretty sure I got a 5.

Personally, I would suggest that you take AP Psych. I thought that it was really interesting and the concepts helped me out in other classes - surprisingly, it helped me the most in AP Lang. I wouldn’t have minded taking the class even if it had a heavier workload.

Friend self-studied it, only used Barrons and PR and got a 5…

It’s very easy.

I did DE so it was faster paced (still took the AP exam though, waiting on the score)…

Work load: Not too bad, but I always blew off doing the mid-week reading (we had class Monday and Wednesday, and had a reading assigned each class, I always procrastinated doing the one assigned Monday/due Wednesday) leading to me cramming every Tuesday night…
Experience: Fairly easy, the material was engaging and the class was fun.
Grade: A (to get an A in the class you had to get a 95+ from nothing but tests and papers)

DE does go faster, but like you said, the work load is easy and the class itself usually garners a high grade.

However, this is just anecdote, not substantial and overwhelming data pointing towards an obvious conclusion

Really easy and I got an A. I didn’t have the best teacher, but I studied for the AP exam in like 3 days and pretty sure I got a 5. Get my scores July 5th!

^What did you do to review for the AP Psychology Exam?

Such as, what type of studying, what textbook, etc.

I bought a Princeton review AP Psychology book and just read it and answered some of the questions in it. I also look up some reviews on the Internet. The Internet is my best friend when finding good study resources.

I thought the class was extremely easy - it was my easiest class by far, even easier than non-AP’s such as US History and Physics. My lowest test score was an 89% and that was the first test. All of the others were 95%+. I ended both semesters with slightly over 100% as the teacher gave 10 points of extra credit per quarter for no late work… which wasn’t hard to get seeing as we had about 3 (non-reading) assignments per quarter.

The workload wasn’t bad at all. As I said above, we had about 3 assignments per quarter. They were fairly big assignments, though. We had around 5 papers (2-3 pages each), 2-3 individual projects, 2-3 group projects, and the rest of the assignments were 3-5 page packets. We had a reading assignment each class, generally around 15 pages. We have block scheduling so 7-8 pages per day. At the beginning of the year it took me a while, like 45 min per assignment but when I realized I would do just fine without extremely detailed notes it only took 15-20. So I’d have 30 min MAX of hw per class (spread over 2 days) between reading and projects.

I didn’t use any prep books or flashcards to study for the AP test. I felt fully prepared from stuff we did in class. I don’t have my score yet, but I fully expect a 5. I consistently got 100% of MC on practice tests we did in class and around 80% of points from the FRQ, which is more than enough for a 5 on the test.

All in all, it’s a pretty easy AP class. It’s a nice break from the more difficult APs if you take a lot of them. It was one of the more interesting ones, too. We always did a lot of interesting activities, the reading wasn’t too boring.
