Hello! I got accepted to BU SMG as an undergraduate student. I want to ask about the school, reputation, grade deflation if present, the internship opportunities, jobs etc. Is it a good place to go? How does it compare to CMU Tepper, Babson college. Thank You

No reply! Please say something

I suggest your question is better asked at the Boston University forum, OP.

I’d also suggest that waiting 23 minutes or 23 hours for a reply is not a long time when you’re dependent upon the kindness of internet strangers.

Hey! Congrats! I got accepted into SMG as a transfer last year! I’d be willing to help so leave me a message! As for a brief summary of SMG, it is a very prestige/professional culture. You can really tell the difference of people in SMG than other schools. Classes can be hard (sometimes the professors make it hard just to even out grades). Reputation for SMG is well known (if not the best) on campus. Grade deflation is present, however if you really work at it, you can achieve good grades. Internships are present and available to you, but you have to look for them. There are classes and opportunities that help you with intern/job placements. As for comparison with other schools, we are shadowed by Harvard and MIT, but we still stay competitive against BC/Northeastern/Babson. I think BU SMG will be ranked even higher in the next few years because our school has really made efforts in improving not only the school and faculty, but by improving the whole curriculum.

For reference, here are Bloomberg’s Businessweek rankings of undergraduate business schools, out today I think:

CMU Tepper: 17th (up from 24 last year)
BU: 25th (down from 23 last year)
Babson: 26th (up from 36 last year)

(here are some other Boston schools as a reference, too):
Northeastern: 19th (up from 25 last year)
Bentley: 20th (same as last year)
Boston College: 4th (up from 6 last year)

Rankings may be useless but others use them religiously, so I thought you might want to see some numbers. Although BU is lower than every school I’ve listed other than Babson, I think BU has a bigger name recognition than Babson or Bentley. Name recognition is equal to or less than that of Northeastern, BC, CMU. I’ve heard grade deflation is pretty bad, though I’m not familiar with CMU or Babson. If cost isn’t a factor, I’d go CMU based on their ranking, prestige, and how they shot up 7 spots this year (though grade deflation may occur there, idk). If money is a factor, you really can’t go wrong at any of the schools you listed.

novafan1225- Hmm… Apart from the rankings, what is the general view of the business school? Is it Top Notch, very good, good or anything you may like to say? Please be honest. And if money is a factor or not, could you elaborate? Do you mean all of these are well known? Thanks
