How is Cal State LA?

Hi, I am very interested in studying Forensic Science at Cal State LA. I live in Tennessee. My weighted GPA is 3.4 and 24 Act score. The main reason why I heard they have a really good Forensic science program. How is the reputation of the school? What is the area like? How is student life? Any info would be good. Best wishes!!!

CSULA cost of attendance is $33k-34k for a non-California-resident student, with no financial aid (other than federal aid or other outside aid if eligible). Can you afford it?

CSULA appears to be a heavily commuter based school, with only 12% of frosh living in the dorms.

Location is definitely not the nicest, basically in East LA which is a questionable area. Campus is nice and you do have close access to downtown but definitely not worth spending $$ for this school. I know you are determined to come to California, but there are far better CSU’s in better locations to consider.

Well, I am getting additional scholarship money. I am an Eagle Scout and have over 100 community service hours. I looked at University of Redlands, but it is not in the most ideal location.

CSULA is in Los Angeles city, but at the edge of it. Unincorporated East Los Angeles is to the south; the cities of Alhambra and Monterey Park are to the east.

Gumbymom. Yeah Ik haha. California is such a cool place

You might want to consider Whittier College, University of La Verne, Point Loma, Concordia which are all private but in much nicer areas of Southern California and San Diego.

I actually looked at University of La Verne but I don’t know how well known it is though.

Well known for what? Where you go to college for Undergrad will not define you, but it is what you do once you get there.

I agree!!! I am probably gonna end up at University of New Mexico anyway because I qualify for in state tuition. I would at least love to go to grad school at like UCLA or UCSD

Then wait for grad school. Unless your family can afford the OOS costs for CSULA it’s not worth it.
