Current hs senior, still waiting for decision.
Hows the nightlife?
Lots of parties?

From what I know, stay away from the Downtown at night and off campus. There are negative things that happen at County Broome.

Its really awesome because there are such a variety of places you can go to. Do not listen to hopefuleagle because as long as you just keep on eye out, you will be fine. I am underage and often go to the downtown bars (just need a chalked, fake, or expired id-easy to get). You can also go to frat parties, which kind of suck. Also many people have house parties. So you have a lot of choices!!

Littlenyr,
I want you to visit this link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/suny-binghamton/861526-how-often-does-kind-experience-turn-you-off-about-binghamton.html
Watch my video and scroll down to the comments to see why it keeps some people’s curiousity in (not claiming that the school itself is bad).

How are the parties?
Easy to get alcohol?
I wanna go to a place where I can play hard, hah, and study hard, but not as hard.

Binghamton IS a party hard school. But you also have to study hard at the same time.
I would suggest you to avoid any kinds of frats or soros. Join club organizations instead.

The nightlife is quite good. Lots of people choose to stay in but as of nightlife, I’ve been going downtown rather often since I’ve been at Bing and once you use common sense and sick with people you’ll be fine.

Hopeful eagle doesn’t know what he/she is talkin bout. Night life at Binghamton is AWESOME. I went to Binghamton for my first 3 semesters, currently at Buffalo (worst night life ever) and coming back in the fall. Anyways the night life is awesome. A normal night can consist of pregaming in dorm/suite with friends, takin taxi/bus to a frat, then walking downtown to the bars. (some skip the frat or downtown depends wat you like) But when your by the bars on State st. I have never felt unsafe. The bars are VERY easy to get into. While many people think the rat is dirty (it is) it is a lot of fun, scoreboard is cool too. THe other bars are cool to it all depends what you like, dancing or just chillen. Def. party hard! Go out Tuesday, thursday, friday, sat. night!

It’s been way too many years since I graduated for me to comment on nightlife. But I have to agree with adiorio about hopefuleagle because a HS senior is really not the person to be commenting with such authority as he does not attend the school.

Come’on sandkmom…power and light?? drummer’s pub??..

Lol, rodney! Don’t recall power and light. Yes on drummer’s, cash inn, the rat and uncle tony’s. And for about a year I’ve been struggling to come up with the name of this townie dive right by campus. H doesn’t remember either. Late eighties anyone??? :)

Note: No offense meant to local residents by use of the term townie!

^^you are much younger than I am…enough said…are you thinking of No 5? the firehouse bar?

Not No 5. Maybe firehouse bar? But to be honest, I don’t know if I would even remember the name if I heard it! And that may or may not be age related! :)

fyi- there was a murder last weekend right behind one of the bars on State St. frequented by BU students.

Not to brush of a murder. But Binghamton is known as one of the safest cities in the U.S. Yes there was the hostage/murder last spring but thats an isolated incident that could happen ANYWHERE! Again yes that murder is kinda scary but its not gonna push me away from going downtown.

I have lived here my whole life. Binghamton is not what it used to be. Much more violence, crime, drugs. I don’t feel safe walking around downtown at night.

Adiorio: As I’ve said before, refer to this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/suny-binghamton/861526-how-often-does-kind-experience-turn-you-off-about-binghamton.html I did not mention any bad experiences about the nightlife.

I may not have gone to college yet, but I probably know the most part about colleges as I’ve been doing research in the admission processes and the type of student life each campus holds. Sandkmom, I suggest you review the link-thread that I’ve posted once again. It contains a video that concerns me from attending Binghamton although I want to attend Binghamton.

Hopeful- my D and I stopped for dinner in Binghamton last night on our way back from Rochester-we are pretty sure that there were no sexual deviants to be found. The area was busy with lots of young people out and abou. I think your safe! I really wouldn’t worry too much at this point especially given how competitive Binghamton has become

Thanks. Did you guys visit Downtown? How many officials were gaurding the place at late night?

hopeful…you dont know what youre talking about… the downtown is fine where the students go. as one of them i choose to go there some weekends and go to the bars. when i walk out, guys whose standing in the streets? hundreds of kids looking for a cab back to campus. its always busy in the downtown area where the students go to and even where the bars are the cops are usually on state street. its pretty safe right there. and the frats and sororities are really fun to go to before the bars as well. youre rarely walking in the streets that arent filled with students, not the creepy people.
