There is a list somewhere on the website...I remember that it was a fairly impressive one.

It really depends on what you want to do, but management and arts students basically have to take the same econ classes. Management students also have to take the requisite core, which gives you a pretty good overview of every aspect of business. The Honours Econ/Finance program is notoriously difficult and requires you to do significantly harder courses. That's the one I'm doing right now, and if you want a challenge this will be more than you asked for. The major Econ program is also very impressive and only a notch down from the honours.

not sure exactly what you mean.....but mcgill management doesn't have a great rep in canada at least, kinda the worst faculty at mcgill (but since mcgill has really strong programs overall, i guess you can put that into perspective...). as for econ as a part of arts, i'm not too sure.

you're right, management isn't one of mcgill's strengths and definately doesn't have a great rep in Canada. However, the honours econ/finance is hard and anyone you talk to, at least arts and management students, will tell you that it's really hard. Trust me, I'm in the program. Besides that and the finance and accounting majors, management is pretty easy. And if you haven't heard already, our winter carnival has been all over the news recently. McGill has a great name, so whatever program you choose to do in it will do you good when it comes to grad school or job hunting. I was in new york for an interview last week at a financial services firm and they were very impressed.

how do you get into the honors econ/finance program? do you apply once you get to mcgill? thanks a lot!

good question stefanimaniac! i'm also wondering the same thing. bittersweet28, did you do the honors econ program? what is the application procedure for that? how competitive is it?

There isn't really a procedure for getting into the honours program. you just have to get into either management or arts and then take the appropriate courses in second year. If you're in management, make sure that you don't take the math for management, stats 1, or managerial economics classes because you won't get credit for them in the second year when you take the more advanced econ classes. I'm not sure what you mean by it being competitive, but it certainly is very difficult. Most people in the class have very little idea about what's going on in the class, but there's a handful of students that are very bright and can at least follow. It's just that they expect you to be able to learn a lot in a much shorter amount of time and that you can easily apply what you've learned to problems. However, be forewarned that this stream is for people who are very serious about economics and plan to do a lot of research in this field in the future. It's very technical and would be useless if you just wanted to have it for a broader academic background or out of interest. It's something worth trying though. This is like the IB or AP of high school

i was in the Econ honor last semester then transferred to the major. it was tough, i have been spending 25 hours per day reading the microeconomics ****, and it almost killed me.

Can this honour in Econ/Finance gear you towards and investment banking career?
