How is minnesota like?

Hi,

I am coming to U of M and wanna know hows the city like, please tell me more abt the uni too :)

well... which part are you going to St. Paul or Minneapolis?

30 plus views and no replies.. say alot of those ppl in minnesota and uofm

Okay I'll bite:

Minneapolis is a large metro city that feels very earthy, also for an urban area there many parks, trees and the Mississippi River runs right through it. There is a lot of culture, sports AND tons of outdoor recreation in all seasons. Anything you could want, Minneapolis has got.

It is a great place.

What exactly did you want to know. I am going to be attending the U of M this fall and I live about an hour away and have visited several times. What college are you going to be in. Personally, Minneapolis is my second favorite city I have ever been to behind only Chicago. It's a relatively large metro area with about 3.5 million people about 300,000 in Minneapolis alone and between 200 and 300,000 in St. Paul. They have a pretty good park system as well as bicycle trails and lanes throughout the city. The University is essentially divided into three campuses: St. Paul, East Bank, and West Bank. The East Bank is the largest campus and has all of the dorms with the exception of two. This is also where most of the athletic facilities are or at least all the major ones. The main student union and mall are on the East Bank. On the East Bank you can find the Math, Science Engineering, Architecture and Language departments as well as the Medical School. The West Bank houses School of Music, Theatre Arts Department, Studio Arts Department, Carlson School of Management, Law School, Social Science departments. In St. Paul you can find the colleges of: Natural Resources, Biological Sciences, Human Ecology, Agricultural, Food, and Environmental Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine. If you have some more specific questions I can try to answer those for you too.

Oh yeah, the University of Minnesota Campus is the second largest in the nation only behind ASU.
There are a lot of people there with a lot to do, so you may be intimidated at first by the size but overall it is a good way to meet a whole lot of people in a diverse environment.

any complaints abt the city?

No, not really like all cities there is crime, but overall the city is da bomb!!!
One thing that I personally like about the location is that even though I'll be at the U I can still have friends from 3 or 4 other colleges. St. Tomas, Hamline, Augsberg and others are opportunities to make new friends.

The city has many parks and a large population of Somali immigrants. Minnesota has arguably the best public radio network in the country. The U of MN is large and diverse, and there is plenty of lawn space on the campus for relaxing in good weather, plenty of tunnels and skyways for avoiding bad weather, and a GRAND library system on campus.

What else would you like to know?
