I know most people just claim credit for this class through AP or SAT writing what have you but I often struggle with grammar and sentence structure and when to use commas and stuff so I was curious

if RHE 306 would be a beneficial course to take and not too hard to get an "A"?

I got a 5 on the AP lang test so I am not too dumb, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a weed out course.

If I can learn good writing skills and earn a 4.0 to boost my GPA, it seems to me like this would be a great class to take.

If you want to sand bag that class and get a 4.0 you should take it. I have not taken it but I know that if you get a 600 on SAT Reading Part you do not have to take it.

didn’t take it, but roommate did. he thought it was hard. grading will depend on the instructor. i suggest you pass on it. not a weed out course, more of a remedial course. also, you will probably be stuck in class with some of the worst students at UT. i don’t know anyone who chose to take it while having the grades to skip.

a lot of people are not able to get a 600 in writing. mostly international students, people from non-suburban areas, people from south and west texas, athletes, etc.

@Iamright: so it is a class for kids on the lower end of the academic spectrum and yet your roommate found it hard?

If it was hard wouldn’t all the kids fail?

My purpose in taking it is too improve my writing and also for a GPA booster. But I’d hate to have it lower my GPA when I could have just claimed credit.

How hard the course is will ultimately depend on the instructor. I took it when I was a freshman and it wasn’t too difficult but definitely wasn’t an easy A. You have to take two writing components to graduate so if you think you may need to get some extra help on your writing take it.
