Doing the readings doesn't get you an A...So what does? Any advice is appreciated.

Who do you have? I basically gave up on getting an A. It’s not gonna happen. Not only are the readings boring, but even when you waste your life away reading the terrible atrocities they dare to call “important to our society”, you still don’t make an A on the test. Ridiculous.

The secret is taking it online through Lone Star College

I’m not looking forward to E 316K at all. I’m a math major and I hate english…more particularly literature. I think it may be the single least important class on the core curriculum. I wanted to take the equivalent at my community college but my community college has pre-reqs that I don’t meet -_-…

Does Lone Star College have any pre-reqs for their literature equivalent to UT’s E 316K?

@PatrickJay Ridiculous is definitely the right word for this course. It’s obvious that in an attempt to make the course challenging, they grade in a rigid way. So far I have an 84, I’ve only taken 1 exam. I read every word and I was pretty confident about my writing. I wonder if they even give out As? Lol probably some sort of conspiracy.

@windowbob I took it here thinking it’d be easy because I consider English to be easy. Wrong lol

I have heard that E 316K is hard at UT and can be a GPA buster.

But yes, in order to take 316K online at Lone Star (or ACC) you have to have RHE 306K (also required at UT) & 309K. You can place out of taking RHE 306K by scoring at least a 600 on the SAT Writing section or a 3 on the English Language & Composition AP Exam.

Even though you have to take the additional RHE 309K as a pre-requisite for 316, it counts as an upper division elective with a writing component (depending on your major, I guess). My son knocked out 309 in a 3 week minimester and then took 316 in a summer session. He seemed to enjoy the classes and both instructors so I could check to see who they were if anyone is interested in taking this route. The credits transfer but the grades are not calculated into your GPA. The classes cost around $400 each if I remember correctly.

I took Doherty for E316K during the summer. Although there were many readings, it was manageable because he only tests to see if you actually read it. There’s no analyzing.

If you can, take him.

if you go on www.myedu.com you can look at the GPA spread of each teacher for each subject, and from there you can pick out one that seems to best fit you. i love that website.
